Job Summary:
Do you love working with children in a fun, safe, and active outdoor environment—and have a passion for climbing?
As a Rock Climbing Lead for the Mountain Adventures Camp at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, you will play a key role in leading and facilitating safe, engaging climbing experiences for campers ages 7–14. This role is responsible for overseeing all climbing-related programming, ensuring adherence to safety standards, and creating a positive and confidence-building environment for young climbers.In addition to leading climbing activities such as top-rope climbing and rappelling, the Rock Climbing Lead will support broader Mountain Adventures programming, which may include hiking, ropes course, and other outdoor activities.

This position requires strong technical climbing knowledge, excellent judgment, and a commitment to safety, organization, and positive camper engagement. As a representative of Crested Butte Mountain Resort, you are expected to uphold company values with integrity and deliver exceptional experiences for guests and families.

Job Specifications:

  • Starting Wage: $22.00/hr - $24.69/hr
  • Employment Type: Summer Seasonal 2026
  • Shift Type: Full Time and Part Time hours available

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and facilitate rock climbing activities for campers ages 7–14, ensuring a safe and supportive environment
  • Set up, inspect, and maintain climbing equipment, anchors, and safety systems
  • Instruct campers on proper climbing techniques, safety procedures, and use of equipment
  • Supervise belaying, rappelling, and climbing zones with a strong focus on risk management
  • Ensure all climbing operations comply with CBMR policies and applicable state regulations
  • Maintain clear communication with campers, staff, and supervisors regarding safety and daily plans
  • Support and participate in additional Mountain Adventures activities as needed (hiking, ropes course, etc.)
  • Assist with transportation and supervision of campers between activity locations
  • Maintain organization, daily planning, and flexibility in a dynamic outdoor environment
  • Foster teamwork, inclusion, and a positive camp culture
  • Other duties as assigned

  • A positive, professional, and proactive attitude
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)

 

The expected pay range is $22.00/hr - $24.69/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
