Job Summary:
At RockResorts/Vail Resorts Hospitality, we affectionately refer to our Housekeeping team as the “heart of the house.” By consistently delivering the highest standards of cleanliness, comfort, and care, the Housekeeping team plays an essential role in creating an exceptional experience for every guest.
The Executive Housekeeper is a highly visible leadership position responsible for the overall performance of the Housekeeping department. This leader must be able to build and motivate a strong team, effectively manage labor, adapt staffing to changing business volumes, and maintain high standards of cleanliness and productivity. Leadership and Team Development
- Provide clear, consistent, and visible leadership for all Housekeeping employees and leaders.
- Build a positive, inclusive, and accountable department culture centered on teamwork, trust, safety, and guest service.
- Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and develop Housekeeping leaders and employees.
- Establish clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback, recognition, coaching, and corrective action when appropriate.
- Conduct daily team meetings and maintain open communication across all shifts and work locations.
- Partner with department leaders to address employee relations concerns promptly and professionally.
- Develop a strong leadership bench and succession plan to support the long-term needs of the operation.
- Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, adaptability, and composure in a fast-paced environment.
Labor and Financial Management
- Develop and manage Housekeeping schedules based on occupancy, arrivals, departures, stayovers, group activity, business demand, and operational priorities.
- Adjust daily staffing levels and work assignments as business volumes change while maintaining service and cleanliness standards.
- Monitor labor productivity, overtime, staffing ratios, payroll, and contract labor usage to ensure performance aligns with forecast and budget.
- Proactively identify labor risks and implement corrective strategies before they negatively affect financial performance or the guest experience.
- Establish and monitor productivity standards for room attendants, housepersons, inspectors, and other Housekeeping positions.
- Review daily labor reports, payroll records, employee hours, attendance, and productivity results for accuracy.
- Hold department leaders accountable for managing schedules, productivity, attendance, and daily labor deployment.
- Partner with Finance and senior leadership to prepare labor forecasts, explain variances, and develop action plans.
- Balance labor efficiency with business needs, employee well-being, and the consistent delivery of quality standards.
- Manage department expenses, supplies, linen, equipment, and contracted services within established budget expectations.
Housekeeping Operations
- Direct the daily operation of the Housekeeping department, including guest rooms, public areas, linen, laundry, storage areas, and back-of-house spaces.
- Manage room inventory and ensure accurate, timely tracking of clean, inspected, vacant, occupied, and out-of-order rooms.
- Coordinate closely with the Front Desk to establish room priorities and support early arrivals, room moves, special requests, and recovery situations.
- Partner with Housekeeping managers and supervisors to assign daily work and respond to changing operational needs.
- Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms, public areas, closets, storage spaces, and employee work areas.
- Establish consistent cleanliness, inspection, and quality-control standards across the operation.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels for linens, guest supplies, cleaning products, uniforms, and operating equipment.
- Coordinate with Maintenance to identify, report, track, and resolve guest-room and public-area maintenance concerns.
- Develop operational plans for peak periods, group arrivals and departures, special events, weather impacts, and staffing shortages.
Safety and Compliance
- Maintain a safe working environment and ensure employees follow all company safety standards and departmental procedures.
- Ensure proper training and compliance related to chemicals, equipment, ergonomics, personal protective equipment, and workplace safety.
- Conduct regular safety discussions and follow up promptly on hazards, incidents, and employee injuries.
- Maintain accurate department records and ensure compliance with applicable company policies and employment requirements.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in Hospitality Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of three years of progressive leadership experience within hospitality rooms operations required; Housekeeping leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading a large, diverse, and operationally complex team.
- Strong knowledge of labor management, scheduling, payroll, productivity standards, room inventory, and quality assurance.
- Strong coaching, performance-management, conflict-resolution, and employee-development skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Conversational Spanish or additional language skills are highly valued.
- Valid driver’s license preferred.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, early mornings, and evenings based on business needs.
- Ability to perform the physical responsibilities associated with a hotel Housekeeping operation, including walking, standing, bending, lifting, and inspecting rooms and facilities.
The expected pay range is $68,000.00 - $73,000.00 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
