Job Summary:
The Lift Maintenance Manager leads the people, systems, and processes responsible for delivering safe, reliable lift operations. This role balances hands-on technical leadership with a strong focus on developing technicians, leading operational change, and improving lift reliability over time. The Lift Maintenance Manager sets clear expectations, drives accountability, and leads continuous improvement efforts to reduce downtime, improve consistency, and strengthen trust across Mountain Operations.

Job Responsibilities:
Leading the Team & Driving Change
- Lead, coach, and develop Lift Maintenance technicians to build strong technical capability, ownership, and accountability at all levels.
- Set and reinforce clear expectations for quality, safety, and reliability through consistent leadership presence and follow-up.
- Lead change initiatives focused on improving lift reliability, reducing repeat issues, and strengthening preventive maintenance execution.
- Build trust through visible leadership in the field, clear communication, and support during both routine operations and high‑pressure events.
- Develop future leaders and technical experts by supporting training, mentoring, and professional growth.
Operational & Technical Leadership
- Provide hands-on leadership and technical oversight for daily maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of chairlifts, surface lifts, and conveyor lifts.
- Ensure all lift systems operate safely and reliably in compliance with ANSI B77.1, state tramway regulations, and Vail Resorts standards.
- Lead the development and execution of preventive maintenance programs and long-term reliability strategies.
- Identify recurring failures and system weaknesses, then lead corrective actions to improve lift availability and reduce unplanned downtime.
- Lead and support major maintenance and project work, including haul rope maintenance, gearbox service, annual inspections, and load testing.
- Respond to lift outages with calm, decisive leadership, ensuring safe resolution, strong coordination, and clear communication.
Safety & Compliance
- Lead by example in reinforcing Vail Resorts’ safety culture and ensuring safe work practices are consistently followed.
- Maintain accurate documentation and tracking of inspections, maintenance activities, work orders, and logs to ensure visibility, accountability, and compliance.
- Partner with state inspectors and internal auditors to maintain regulatory compliance and ongoing readiness.
- Lead incident reviews focused on learning, continuous improvement, and prevention.
Communication & Cross‑Functional Leadership
- Communicate lift status, reliability risks, and maintenance priorities clearly with Mountain Operations and resort leadership.
- Partner with operations teams to align maintenance strategies with guest experience and operational goals.
- Lead pre‑season planning, in‑season execution, and off‑season work with a focus on long‑term system health and reliability.
- Influence operational and capital decisions through credibility, field experience, and data‑informed insight.
Resource & Asset Management
- Lead effective use of tools, equipment, and spare parts to support reliability and rapid response.
- Support labor planning, budgeting, and capital planning aligned with long‑term asset performance.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe shop environments that reflect professionalism and operational discipline.
Job Requirements:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge of ANSI B77.1 standards.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and influence change in a technical environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to lead in dynamic, high‑risk conditions.
- Ability to work in varied mountain weather conditions, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred:
- Previous lift maintenance leadership or supervisory experience.
- 3+ years of lift maintenance experience.
- NSAA, RMLA, or manufacturer training.
The expected pay range is $70,944.80 - $93,494.73 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
