Job Summary: 

The Director of Housekeeping provides strategic leadership and oversight for all housekeeping operations across the resort, ensuring exceptional cleanliness standards, luxury presentation, operational efficiency, and guest satisfaction. This position is responsible for leading and developing the housekeeping management team, establishing departmental strategy, managing labor and operating budgets, driving Forbes and brand standards, and creating a culture of excellence and accountability.

The Director oversees all housekeeping functions across guest rooms, residences, public areas, laundry operations, inventory management, owner services support, quality assurance, capital planning, asset protection, sustainability initiatives, and employee engagement. This leader serves as a key member of the resort leadership team and partners closely with Operations, Front Office, Engineering, Food & Beverage, and Ownership stakeholders to deliver a world-class luxury guest experience.

Job Responsibilities:  

Pre-Opening Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous refinement of all Housekeeping Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) aligned with Kindred, RockResorts, Forbes Travel Guide, and luxury hospitality standards.
  • Develop the organizational structure, staffing model, labor strategy, and department opening plan for all housekeeping operations.
  • Lead recruitment, selection, onboarding, and succession planning for housekeeping leadership, supervisors, room attendants, laundry personnel, and support staff.
  • Design and oversee comprehensive training programs covering:
  • Luxury guest service excellence and Forbes standards.
  • Room cleaning standards, inspection protocols, and quality assurance programs.
  • Health, hygiene, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Sustainability initiatives, eco-conscious cleaning practices, and chemical management standards.
  • Housekeeping technology systems, operational reporting, and communication platforms.
  • Leadership development and coaching programs for supervisors and managers.
  • Conduct operational readiness assessments, trial openings, and comprehensive mock service exercises.
  • Direct deep-cleaning and quality assurance inspections of all guest rooms, residences, and public spaces prior to opening.
  • Oversee housewares installation and ensure all accommodations are presented and merchandised to luxury brand standards.
  • Establish inventory controls, procurement processes, and par levels for linens, uniforms, amenities, operating supplies, and equipment.
  • Develop preventative maintenance and asset protection programs in partnership with Engineering.
  • Implement housekeeping software systems, reporting tools, labor management systems, and performance metrics.
  • Conduct ongoing audits to evaluate operational readiness and departmental performance.
  • Provide executive-level status updates, budget forecasting, risk assessments, and opening readiness reports to Resort Leadership.
  • Serve as the housekeeping operational lead during resort opening activities, ensuring seamless execution and immediate response to guest and owner feedback.
  • Develop departmental budgets, staffing forecasts, and financial controls to support successful operational launch.

Post-Opening Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for all housekeeping operations, ensuring exceptional guest satisfaction, luxury presentation, and operational excellence.
  • Establish and maintain Forbes-level cleanliness, presentation, and service standards throughout all guestrooms, residences, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.
  • Lead quality assurance programs, inspections, audits, and corrective action plans to ensure consistent achievement of brand and luxury service standards.
  • Develop and execute departmental business plans, annual objectives, and strategic initiatives aligned with resort goals.
  • Manage departmental labor, expenses, inventory, and capital budgets while maximizing operational efficiency and service delivery.
  • Direct staffing, workforce planning, scheduling strategies, succession planning, performance management, and employee development programs.
  • Oversee linen, uniform, and operating supply programs to ensure inventory optimization and cost control.
  • Provide executive oversight for laundry operations, productivity standards, and quality controls.
  • Partner with Resort Leadership to enhance guest experiences through innovative housekeeping programs, luxury amenities, wellness initiatives, scent strategies, and customized service offerings.
  • Establish and continuously improve guestroom presentation standards, owner service programs, and cleanliness initiatives.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, engagement, and operational excellence through ongoing training, coaching, and leadership development.
  • Lead all housekeeping functions to ensure the highest levels of cleanliness, guest satisfaction, employee engagement, and operational performance.
  • Model exceptional leadership through professionalism, visibility, integrity, and a guest-centric approach.
  • Develop labor strategies and resource allocation plans that balance service excellence with financial stewardship.
  • Recognize and celebrate team achievements while fostering a highly engaged and empowered workforce.
  • Investigate guest concerns, service failures, and operational challenges while developing sustainable corrective action plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA, safety, environmental, and brand standards while mitigating operational risk.
  • Communicate effectively with ownership, executive leadership, managers, and team members to drive alignment and execution.
  • Oversee asset preservation programs through regular inspections of furniture, fixtures, equipment, décor, and guestroom conditions.
  • Build strong partnerships with all resort departments to ensure seamless service delivery and exceptional guest experiences.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, brand, and company standards while proactively identifying and addressing operational risks.
  • Champion sustainability initiatives and environmental stewardship programs in alignment with brand objectives and Vail Resorts' Epic Promise.
  • Foster a culture of open communication, engagement, inclusion, and leadership development throughout the department.
  • Analyze guest satisfaction scores, quality metrics, employee engagement results, and operational performance data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Participate as an active member of the Resort Leadership Team, contributing to strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and operational decision-making.
  • Manage vendor relationships, service agreements, and third-party business partners to uphold quality standards and maximize value.
  • Perform additional leadership responsibilities and strategic projects as required.

 

Job Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent. - required
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive housekeeping leadership experience within luxury hotels, resorts, or residential hospitality environments. - required
  • Minimum 5 years of department-level management experience with responsibility for multiple leaders and large teams. - required
  • Demonstrated experience managing departmental budgets, labor planning, forecasting, and financial performance. - required
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and coaching skills. - required
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and professionally in English. - required
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. and access all areas of the resort. - required
  • Experience leading Forbes, AAA Five Diamond, RockResorts, Marriott Luxury Collection, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Auberge, Montage, or similar luxury hospitality operations. - preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, Business Administration, or related field. - preferred
  • Experience with HotSOS, Opera, Alice, M3, Microsoft Office Suite, labor management, and housekeeping technology platforms. - preferred
  • Experience opening luxury hotels, resorts, or residential hospitality properties. - preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish. - preferred
  • Professional certifications in hospitality, housekeeping operations, or leadership development. - preferred

 

The expected pay range is $58,994.00 - $84,277.00 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
