Senior Communications Manager, Global Media Relations; Brand Comms

The Communications Team manages strategic communications, PR, content creation, influencer and social media to promote Vail Resorts and its values; each of our world-class resorts; and the product that provides guests with unrivaled access to all of them, the Epic Pass. We are seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-driven Senior Communications Manager of Global Media Relations to elevate our brand narrative, grow our earned media footprint and promote Vail Resorts’ portfolio of resorts and Epic Pass across national and international markets. This role will lead the development and execution of integrated communications strategies that drive awareness and brand affinity for Vail Resorts’ mountains and its suite of products and services—including Epic Pass, Epic Australia Pass, Hospitality, Food & Beverage, Ski & Ride School and My Epic Gear. This position will report to the Director of Global Media Relations.

 

As a senior leader, this position will be a key driver of high-impact storytelling, integrated campaign development, and proactive media engagement across a diverse global media landscape. This position will also play a vital role in cultivating cross-functional alignment and managing agency partnerships to maximize earned media performance across core markets.

 

Many of our Corporate function teams can now live and work in any of the states in which Vail Resorts currently operates* – enabling flexible remote work alongside a commitment to building and maintaining strong culture both in person and virtually.

 

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment for Broomfield-based roles where employees who live within 50 miles of the Broomfield office work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for earned media strategies and public relations campaigns for Vail Resorts’ Mountain destinations and Epic Pass, proactively shaping narratives and driving coverage in targeted outlets
  • Lead earned media efforts and holistic storytelling for a variety of lines of business including Epic Pass, Epic Australia Pass, Hospitality, Ski and Ride School, Food & Beverage, My Epic Gear and more
  • Support end-to-end development, implementation and ongoing management of earned media affiliate partners. Support with the program strategy and frameworks, managing partnerships and ensuring the successful achievement of program objectives.
  • Manage and maintain positive stakeholder relationships internally and externally, including overseeing day-to-day collaboration with Public Relations agencies in national and international markets and ensuring alignment on KPI messaging and strategy
  • Secure compelling story angles across a variety of media, from traditional print and broadcast to online and emerging channels via creative and strategic pitching; manage external-facing communications materials including press releases, pitches, fact sheets, talking points, media backgrounders and more
  • Support Enterprise Media Hosting, offering KPI outlets curated, first-hand experiences across the mountain resort portfolio that results in strategic storytelling
  • Perform competitive analysis, industry research, and continually assess and implement best practices and KPIs in a consistently changing landscape
  • Work with internal teams to support cross-functional projects including close collaboration with the full communications team to stay updated on upcoming news, media hosting, and more for streamlined and strategic media relations efforts
  • Cultivate relationships with key national and international media to maximize story opportunities
  • Manage national and international media tours and facilitate interviews with functional experts, providing appropriate messaging and preparation
  • Lead reporting efforts; develop, monitor, track and analyze appropriate metrics to evaluate external communications performance; effectively help support this analysis to key stakeholders and proactively develop strategic recommendations for adjusting future efforts based on those results

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • 7+ years of public relations experience in related field required; PR agency experience preferred
  • 2+ years of affiliate marketing experience required
  • Strong knowledge of current earned media best practices, tools and analytics
  • Established media relationships to leverage on behalf of the company with proven track-record of securing media coverage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with knowledge of AP style
  • Proficiency with media tools (Cision, PR Newswire, MuckRack, Meltwater)
  • Ability to organize details and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Knowledge of the ski/snowboard industry a plus
  • Willingness to travel

 

 

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $90,000 - $120,000. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
