Job Summary:

The Vail Resorts Finance Team is committed to Building Leaders and Driving Value. The Manager of Technical Accounting and SOX Compliance is a critical role for the Vail Resorts Accounting Team. This position will be heavily involved in the Company’s leasing and debt accounting processes, supporting contract review through research and application of technical accounting literature, as well as assisting in the management of the Company’s SOX program.

 

The Manager of Technical Accounting and SOX Compliance will report directly to the Sr. Manager of Technical Accounting and SOX Compliance within the Vail Resorts Finance organization.

 

Job Specifications: 

  • Starting Wage: $76,841.70 - $100,034.21 + annual bonus

Job Responsibilities:

Through Vail Resorts core leadership competencies, the Manager of Technical Accounting and SOX Compliance will:

  • Drive: Apply US GAAP and SOX compliance efforts with respect to lease and debt accounting processes. Proactively support other technical accounting and SOX compliance matters as needed. Maintain a growth mindset.
  • Re-Imagine: Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the systems and processes related to all areas of responsibility, specifically leasing and debt. Identify areas for process improvement, bringing new ideas, methods, and approaches to the Accounting Team.
  • Connect: Inspire trust and establish strong relationships with all stakeholders including the Accounting Team, Internal and External Audit. Collaborate closely with stakeholders to drive accurate reporting of the Company’s leases and debt processes and facilitate a strong internal control environment.
  • Out Front: Serve as a thought leader aligning lease and debt accounting deliverables with our business objectives. Identify potential accounting and internal control issues and formulate thoughtful, comprehensive recommendations for resolution.
  • Develop: Seek developmental, leadership, and mentorship opportunities. Foster a culture of teamwork and accountability. Assist in the training and development of operations personnel to support compliance with established processes and controls. Stay abreast of existing and emerging financial accounting and reporting principles and assess their applicability to Vail Resorts. Educate accounting and finance staff on accounting changes and regulatory requirements.

Job Requirements:

The Manager of Technical Accounting and SOX Compliance is an experienced business and accounting professional with background and interpersonal skills sufficient to function successfully in this critical position. The following background is strongly preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or a related business field
  • CPA with at least 3-5 years of experience in public accounting and/or accounting role with a large public company
  • Experience operating or auditing internal controls over financial reporting   
  • Expertise in technical accounting (US GAAP and SEC regulations) & SOX research, compliance and reporting

 

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $76,841.70 - $100,034.21 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment where employees living within 50 miles of the Broomfield office work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.  Employees living outside of a commutable distance can work remotely from British Columbia, Washington D.C., and the 16 U.S. states* in which we currently operate. This includes: California, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, Washington State, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
