Job Summary:
We’re building something new for the world’s largest and best professional ski patrol, a center of excellence to support the continued success of our teams. The Manager: Technical Rescue, Ski Patrol Center of Excellence (COE) is responsible for supporting the execution, consistency, and development of enterprise technical rescue programs across regional resorts. This role focuses on operational delivery, coaching, training systems, and cross-functional support to both Technical Rescue and Avalanche Programs. The Manager: Technical Rescue partners with resort teams to help train, prepare, and invest in rescue readiness, safety, professionalism, and cultural alignment.
This position is ideal for a passionate facilitator who has
strong technical competence, emotional intelligence, and the ability to influence diverse patrol cultures.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Regional Technical Rescue Program Execution: Oversees regional technical rescue programs by applying strong technical rescue skills, foundational operational understanding, and reliable mechanical aptitude.
  • Avalanche Program Support: Assists Avalanche Programs by leveraging technical comprehension, crossdiscipline awareness, and facilitation skills to ensure aligned operational readiness.
  • Management Standards Training: Leads training of management standards using high emotional intelligence and strong facilitation abilities to build capable, consistent teams across resorts.
  • Regional Insight & Guidance: Provides regional perspective by assessing operational realities, identifying needs, and communicating with technical depth and clarity.
  • Interdepartmental Collaboration & Integration: Strengthens alignment between Technical Rescue, Avalanche, and mountain operations teams by sharing expertise, supporting crossdiscipline problemsolving, and ensuring cohesive program delivery across the region.
  • Culture Change Leadership: Leads culture change efforts using emotional intelligence and expert facilitation to build trust, strengthen collaboration, and advance a more modern, professional ski patrol culture.

 

Job Requriments:

  • Deep experience in, and appreciation for, patrolling, the ski industry, and mountain culture.
  • Enthusiasm and passion for driving culture and innovative capabilities that maintain Vail Resorts ski patrols as the largest and best collective professional ski patrol in the world.
  • Strong communicator and leader, able to connect with everyone from frontline team members to senior leaders both in the field and centrally.
  • Proven ability to lead, align teams, and build energy and trust across a large organization.
  • Deep understanding of how resorts operate and how to lead and implement programs across multiple locations.
  • A leader who can both drive results and inspire people.
  • Strong business storytelling skills and complex stakeholder management capabilities.

Qualifications:
Required

  • AAA Pro 1/CAA Ops Level 1 or higher.
  • Minimum SPRAT Level 1
  • Wilderness First Responder or higher
  • 5+ years of rope access and/or technical rope rescue experience.
  • 5+ years of professional avalanche operations and patrol experience.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to build trust across diverse patrol cultures.
  • Ability to travel regionally and work in severe alpine environments.

 

Preferred

  • Experience with RACS operation or maintenance.
  • Prior leadership experience.
  • Experience with accident investigations, NSP programs, search and rescue operations, etc. 

 

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $79,531 - $127,500 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
