Summary

The Mountain Resorts Legal team is seeking a Mountain Resorts Counsel to join our talented group in a hybrid role based in Broomfield, Colorado, conveniently located between Denver and Boulder. The Mountain Resorts Legal team provides legal support to the world-class resorts in our Mountain Division.

 

The ideal candidate for this position will have 5+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably 3-4 years with a prestigious law firm, and a desire to learn more about the ski and ride industry. They will have a strong transactional background in real estate, land use, and entitlements. They will be inquisitive, make connections with stakeholders and peers, and effectively distill complexity into clear, concise analysis. They will be able to quickly identify material risks and make recommendations based in business acumen. The most successful attorneys at Vail Resorts are team players who are hungry, humble, and smart.    

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice, counsel, and support to the Mountain Division regarding year-round operations on a broad range of real estate, land use, transactional, commercial, regulatory, and other pre-litigation legal issues as an individual contributor;
  • Draft, negotiate, and revise a variety of transactional documents;
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, real estate, community relations, and other company departments;
  • Contribute broadly to the leadership of the businesses, work effectively with senior management, and foster strong trusted advisor relationships with resort leaders;
  • Proactively identify trends in legal issues to strategically mitigate risk across operations;
  • Assist in developing and advising on company policies, procedures, and best practices;
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of legal trainings; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and JD required.
  • Active state bar license required. A successful applicant must also have or qualify for a Colorado single-client bar license (or full Colorado bar license).
  • At least 5 years of relevant legal experience. 
  • Real estate, land use, and entitlements expertise, with demonstrated experience leading transactions involving all stages of the acquisition or disposition of real property.
  • Substantial drafting and negotiating experience with the ability to lead complex projects with multiple stakeholders from start to finish.
  • A high degree of knowledge agility, with a demonstrated ability to learn new areas of law and business. 
  • Clear and concise communication skills (written and oral), including the ability to distill complexity and propose solutions and recommendations.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle urgent situations with sound judgment and diplomacy and to cultivate meaningful partnerships with stakeholders and peers.

 

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $145,000 - $155,000 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment for Broomfield-based roles where employees must live within 50 miles of the Broomfield office and work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.
