Job summary:

The Assistant Buyer plays a critical role in supporting Vail Resorts’ growing Logo Merchandising business. This position helps manage the end‑to‑end product lifecycle—from vendor communication and purchase order execution to sales analysis and inventory monitoring. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, proactive, and energized by a fast‑paced retail environment. Job Responsibilities:

Purchase Order & Operational Excellence

    • Execute and oversee the full purchase order (PO) lifecycle, ensuring accuracy in costs, quantities, and timelines.
    • Monitor PO status and work with vendors, logistics, and planning to ensure on‑time delivery.
    • Resolve discrepancies related to costs, quantities, or shipping.

Category Management & Merchandising Support

    • Partner with the manager to implement category strategies, product initiatives, and company programs that drive sales and brand engagement.
    • Assist with seasonal assortment planning, sample coordination, and product setup.

Inventory Management

    • Track inventory levels across stores and channels, identifying potential stock‑outs or overstock situations.
    • Support markdown execution, stock balancing, replenishment, and reorder management.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

    • Partner with merchants, planning, supply chain, and stores to support merchandising strategies and guest‑centric initiatives.
    • Prepare materials for line reviews, vendor meetings, and internal readouts.

Vendor Communication & Relationship Management

    • Serve as a key point of contact for vendors—managing item data collection, order status, delivery timelines, and issue resolution.
    • Help ensure product quality, brand standards, and operational alignment.

Data Accuracy & Systems Management

    • Maintain accurate product, cost, and pricing information within merchandising systems.
    • Ensure adherence to company policies, financial controls, and operational timelines.

 

Job Requirements:

    • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), and merchandising or ERP systems

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluent in accurate spoken and written English

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and workload in a highly dynamic environment

    • Analytical mindset with interest in sales metrics, margin analysis, and inventory performance

    • Passion for retail, product, and delivering an elevated guest experience

    • 2+ years of relevant retail experience (reporting, inventory management, store sales, operations, etc.)

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment where employees living within 50 miles of the Broomfield office work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.  Employees living outside of a commutable distance can work remotely from British Columbia, Washington D.C., and the 16 U.S. states* in which we currently operate. This includes: California, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, Washington State, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

 

The expected pay range is $23.00 - $30.91. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
