Job Summary:

The Underground Cable Locator is responsible for locating, marking, and documenting underground electrical and telecom infrastructure to prevent damage during construction, maintenance, and upgrade activities. This role supports the Power Distribution and Telecom Departments at both Breckenridge and Keystone Resorts, where all on‑mountain infrastructure is owned and operated by Vail Resorts. This full‑time, summer seasonal position requires a proactive team member who can work outdoors in varying weather conditions, communicate effectively with multiple departments, and respond quickly to operational needs to ensure a safe and efficient environment.

 

Job Specifications:

  • Starting Wage: $21.47/hr - $28.38/hr
  • Employment Type: Summer Seasonal 2026
  • Shift Type: Full Time hours available

Job Responsibulities:

Safety

  • Maintain a current understanding of all safety procedures and requirements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in safe work practices related to locating underground electrical distribution systems at Breckenridge and Keystone Resorts.

Maintenance

  • Participate in on‑call rotations to support emergency repairs of electrical distribution systems.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are available and ready for use.

Installations & Upgrades

  • Plan and execute GIS data collection and mapping updates for electrical distribution systems.
  • Assist with relocations, upgrades, and move/add/change requests for underground facilities.

Support

  • Provide backup support to High Voltage Electricians as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned across both resorts.

Relationships

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with Lift Maintenance, Lift Electrical, Snowmaking, and other on‑mountain departments.
  • Provide timely status updates and escalate critical issues when necessary.

 

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with Keystone & Breckenridge Resorts preferred.
  • One year of experience locating underground electrical supply lines preferred.
  • Practical understanding of NESC (Section 30 – Rule 300) for Underground Supply Lines & Equipment preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, ArcGIS mapping software, and Apple iPad functions preferred.
  • Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License and ability to pass Colorado MVR check.
  • Experience in underground utility installations preferred.

 

The expected pay range is $21.47/hr - $28.38/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
