The Senior Manager of Mountain Operations reports to the General Manager and is a member of the resort’s senior leadership team. The Senior Manager leads all on-mountain operations at Wilmot Mountain including Lift Operations, Lift Maintenance, Trail Grooming, Snowmaking, Terrain Park, Building Maintenance, and Vehicle Maintenance. This role requires a strong business acumen, strategic planning, and team leadership/development skills. This role is responsible for managing all ski and tubing terrain plans and associated infrastructure to deliver an Experience of a Lifetime for our guests and employees.


  • Develop season strategy, with assistance from Resort General Manager, to maximize guest satisfaction and to achieve overall resort business goals.  
  • Effectively and proactively partner with key stakeholders including but not limited to tubing hill, food and beverage, product sales, ski school, marketing, and National Ski Patrol (NSP) volunteers.
  • Oversee and direct all mountain infrastructure maintenance to ensure safe and successful operations.
  • Effectively manage all financial results including purchasing, forecasting, P&L statements, payroll, budgeting and scheduling.
  • Operate mountain operations teams within budget guidelines and work with financial analysts to find best practices.
  • Manage capital projects including re-imagine initiatives, facility innovations, and maintenance.
  • Participate in Vail Resorts Best Practice Groups, Wilmot Mountain senior leadership team meetings, and resort/company special events.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, developing, scheduling, reviewing and disciplinary action/separation for employees.
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate professionally to staff and guests.  Respond and engage with customer suggestions, complaints and recognition.
  • Adhere to all policies, rules, regulations for Vail Resorts and Wilmot Mountain.
  • Create and maintain a productive, safe work environment, including implementing and retaining all company mandated safety-related training and assessments.
  • Deliver the “Experience of a Lifetime” to our guests and employees.

  • Conduct regular meetings (individual and group) with team members to establish goals, review performance and provide organized communications.

  • 10 years of experience in resort operations with at least 5 years in a management role
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work under tight timelines and deliver high quality results
  • Must be able to be friendly and outgoing throughout the resort
  • Ability to create schedules and assign work tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage departmental budgets
  • Strong ability to train employees to set service standards
  • Passion for the snowsports industry – Required
  • Professionalism and strong guest service skills, attention to detail and timeliness
  • Flexible schedule required during peak times throughout the year.  Must be willing to work evenings, holidays and weekends – Required
  • MS office proficiency – Required
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form including communicating on the mountain radio
  • High level of interpersonal skills to ensure: teamwork, high level guest contact, fact finding for appropriate decision making, commitment to guest service and employee relations
  • Must demonstrate ability to receive and give feedback and act upon it
  • Experience managing direct reports with a focus on leadership and career development
  • Experience managing and fostering cross-functional relationships
  • Experience managing external vendors
