Job Summary: 

The Manager of Mountain Maintenance is fully accountable for daily Lift and Fleet Maintenance operations at Wilmot Mountain, ensuring performance excellence, safety, and regulatory compliance. This role provides technical oversight and people leadership for Lift Maintenance (mechanical and electrical) and Fleet Maintenance teams, while driving operational excellence, engagement, and long-term department growth.

This position serves as the primary point of contact for maintenance operations and holds responsibility for P&L management, staffing strategy, talent development, and cross-functional collaboration in alignment with resort and enterprise priorities.

Job Responsibilities: 

Core Leadership & Accountability

  • Own accountability for daily operations, ensuring performance, outcomes, and compliance with regulatory, safety, and company standards.
  • Coach and manage team performance, fostering employee development, engagement, and accountability.
  • Lead enterprise and resort values, competencies, and priorities, modeling expected leadership behaviors.
  • Perform supervisory responsibilities as needed, including direct oversight of shop and field operations during critical operational periods.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Lift and Fleet Maintenance operations with internal departments and functional partners.

Talent, Staffing & Workforce Management

  • Lead talent development and succession planning for all critical operational and leadership roles.
  • Set goals and Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for all direct reports.
  • Manage hiring and onboarding for Lift and Fleet Maintenance teams.
  • Own master scheduling and resource allocation to ensure labor compliance and operational coverage.
  • Develop labor and staffing guidelines to support year-round and seasonal operational demands.
  • Proactively manage staffing risks, including coverage gaps, emergency staffing needs, and succession vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and execute employee retention strategies, monitoring engagement and turnover trends.

Technical Oversight & Operational Excellence

  • Maintain deep functional expertise and technical oversight of lift systems, fleet equipment, and maintenance practices.
  • Ensure tools, resources, and technical knowledge meet operational and safety standards.
  • Direct mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and system upgrades for:
    • Aerial and surface lifts, conveyors, and related systems
    • Resort vehicles and equipment, including grooming equipment, snowmobiles, trucks, UTVs, and heavy equipment
  • Oversee preventive, annual, and unscheduled maintenance programs to ensure system reliability and readiness.
  • Own implementation and effective utilization of Enterprise Asset Management (MaintainX).

Training, Policies & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement training programs, policies, and procedures for Lift and Fleet Maintenance operations.
  • Ensure required certifications, inspections, and documentation are completed accurately and are audit-ready.
  • Lead Skills-Based Pay and Maintenance Ascent programming to develop and advance technician capabilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, workflow efficiency, documentation, and technical excellence.

Financial & Strategic Responsibility

  • Own departmental P&L accountability, including operating and capital budgets.
  • Develop and execute department growth strategies aligned with mountain business objectives.
  • Forecast labor, parts, tooling, and capital needs; prepare and manage capital expenditure requests.
  • Ensure disciplined cost control while maintaining high standards of readiness and safety.

Compliance, Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure full compliance with ANSI B77.1, OSHA, EPA, state lift codes, Hazmat/SDS requirements, fuel storage standards, and company policies.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and lead audits, inspections, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain all required maintenance, inspection, and regulatory documentation.

Working Conditions

  • Mountain outdoor environment with variable weather and terrain.
  • Requires climbing lift towers, accessing machinery rooms, and working around heavy equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds.
  • Availability for nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during peak operations.
  • Operation of snowmobiles, UTVs, and other mountain vehicles as required.

Job Requirements: 

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. 
  • Working knowledge of ANSI B77.1 standards. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and influence change in a technical environment. 
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead in dynamic, high‑risk conditions. 
  • Ability to work in varied mountain weather conditions, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

Preferred: 

  • Previous lift maintenance leadership or supervisory experience. 
  • 3+ years of lift maintenance experience. 
  • NSAA, RMLA, or manufacturer training. 

 

The expected pay range is $70,944.80 - $93,494.73 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
