Job Summary:
The Manager of Lift Maintenance will provide leadership, management and direction to Lift Maintenance department. This position will also assist the Director of Mountain Operations with oversight of other departments within Mountain Operations when needed. Together with the Mountain Operations leadership team, this position will help ensure the overall success of the mountain in terms of the following: daily operations, staff development, and future on mountain planning and strategies that will drive our safety culture as well as guest and employee satisfaction.

 

The Manager of Lift Maintenance will oversee our Lift Mechanical staff, ropeway systems, and conveyors. They will also play and important role in developing and maintaining a safe, inclusive work environment. Training, budgeting, ordering, inventory, and coordinating with the various departments are also important aspects of this position. Our Lift Maintenance department is a strong team of leads, mechanics and electricians of different levels, and support staff. The ideal candidate will have strong initiative and successfully lead a staff of knowledgeable individuals, enabling the highest levels of execution and job fulfillment while working toward excellent team cohesion and efficiency. Future responsibilities may include regional oversight of additional Lift Maintenance objectives and alignment.

Job Specifications:

  • Starting Wage: $68,545.70 - $90,333.07 + annual bonus

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the management and administration of our Lift Maintenance teams to produce an exceptional guest and employee experience
  • Coach and motivate a high performing maintenance team. Ensure the lift maintenance personnel are aligned with Vail Resorts goals, values and core competencies. Develop talent within the scope of this position’s responsibility to improve leadership opportunities within current roles and prepare them for increased responsibility.
  • Maintain an “expert level” status of lift maintenance functions, being proactive with industry trends within Vail Resorts and within the industry as a whole.
  • Be a leader in the effort to improve safety within mountain operations with the goal of reducing/eliminating worker and guest injury. Coordinate closely with the Manager of Health & Safety regarding the same.
  • Prioritize and adapt in a constantly changing business and environmental setting.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with key managers outside the scope of direct reports
  • Manage the safe and reliable maintenance operations and providing the quality and reliable service desired by the guests, Whitetail Ski Resort and Vail Resorts
  • Oversee preventive maintenance activities of the technical staff
  • Develops maintenance routines and procedures
  • Develop and oversee the budgeting process and capital planning
  • Oversees and assists in troubleshooting lift systems
  • Oversees all lift maintenance parts ordering – maintain parts inventory system
  • Develop and research long term needs of lifts at Whitetail and within the region
  • Manages various projects assigned by the Director of Mountain Operations
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, and development of all lift maintenance personnel
  • Assure that all records required by Whitetail and the authorities having jurisdiction are maintained and kept up-to-date including all mechanical and operational procedures, daily maintenance, operational logs, lift failures and incidents
  • Responsible for conduct, training, Lift Maintenance Dept. Policies, Vail Resorts policies, and ensuring paperwork & procedures are completed in a timely manner
  • Actively participate in the Vail Resorts Lift Maintenance Best Practice Group
  • Assist the lift operations leaders and team with training, documentation, operations and compliance
  • Able to work days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Strong financial management, strong communication, leadership and team building skills, skiing/riding ability, must be able to work in extreme weather conditions (winter/summer)
  • Basic knowledge of desktop computer systems and applications
  • Valid Driver's license or ability to obtain one upon employment
  • General knowledge of the ski industry and lift operations
  • Positive, solutions-oriented leadership

The expected pay range is $68,545.70 - $90,333.07 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
