Job Summary:

As an integral part of the Mountain Operations team, the Snowmaking Manager will provide direction, leadership and expertise to the Whistler Blackcomb Snowmaking Department. As well as an operational focus, this role involves a large focus on the maintenance and planning areas of the business.

 

Job Specifications:

  • Outlet: Whistler Blackcomb
  • The budgeted range starts at $65,000 - $95,000 + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience
  • Shift & Schedule Availability: Full Time, Year Round

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the hiring, safety, training, and management of snowmakers, in conjunction with the winter snowmaking operations manager. Also responsible for the summer maintenance, capital projects, potable water delivery, system construction of all related infrastructure.
  • Problem solves various issues to ensure an efficient and safe operation year-round.
  • Must be proactive and look for improvements in all aspects of the operation on a consistent basis.
  • Will oversee the proper installation and maintenance of snowmaking equipment which aligns with regulatory expectations.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all operating policies, programs in addition to managing operating and capital budgets.
  • As a leader in the company this person will embrace and help develop the Whistler Blackcomb safety culture.
  • Responsible for the identification and development of talent and leadership on the snowmaking team and succession planning.
  • Responsible for the engagement, moral and welfare of the snowmaking team.
  • Provide excellent and effective communication to departments across the mountain and resort, treating other departments as internal guests.

 

Job Requirements:

Required:

  • High School diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous snowmaking experience or on mountain operations experience.
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have general computer skills, including Microsoft Office & VR software programs preferred.
  • Must be able to read, speak, write and understand English.

 

Preferred:

  • Previous heavy equipment and/ or cat operating experience.
  • Previous electrical and mechanical experience (pumps, motors, compressors).
  • Previous Snowmaking installation experience.
  • Previous knowledge of Whistler Blackcomb resort.
  • Competent snowmobile operator.
  • Previous experience budgeting at department level with labor, operating expenses and capital projects.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Advanced skier/snowboarder – required.
  • Able to withstand inclement weather conditions for extended period of time.
  • Able to work and supervise day, midnight shifts, weekends depending on need.
  • Able to lift and carry 75 lbs(34 kg) in a rugged alpine environment.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and ski in boots for long portions of your shift.
