Job Summary:

As a Regional Director, you are the catalyst in developing extraordinary leaders, creating unforgettable experiences for our guests and employees, and driving growth across a multi-unit portfolio of Vail Resorts Retail stores in Vail and Beaver Creek. In this dynamic leadership role, you'll partner with mountain operations leadership, drive strategy implementation, and ensure operational excellence across locations. Leading over 300 team members, this Director will oversee the success of 60 business units and tens of millions of dollars in revenue. You will guide both day to day operations and strategic initiatives through driving sales goals, ensuring a seamless customer experience, providing tools and support to your employees, as well as facilitating constant improvement to the business.   

 

You are a leader of leaders - bold, driven, people-focused, and passionate about delivering results in two of the largest and most well-known ski resorts in the world. Your responsibilities will also include internal and external stakeholder management, where this hire will sit on senior leadership teams (SLT) at both resorts, in addition to the SLT for the largest ski rental operator in North America. This Director will oversee branded retail stores associated with some of the most well-known brands in the outdoor industry, including Patagonia, The North Face, Oakley, Burton, and Helly Hansen.

  • The budgeted range starts at $103,596 - $140,000 + annual bonus + equity. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience

Job Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Business Growth 
    • Drive fiscal performance by achieving sales, margin, and profitable goals. 
    • Execute enterprise-wide strategies across stores to align with business goals. 
    • Analyze market trends and competitive data to inform decision-making. 
    • Teach and lead our team members with constant coaching in accountability, retail industry know-how, sales tactics, service culture, labor management, resource efficiency and inventory controls.
  • Team Development, Accountability and Culture
    • Lead, inspire, and mentor a high-performing team of store leaders
    • Recruit, train, and retain top leadership talent to drive employee and guest centric culture
    • Foster a culture rooted in accountability, growth, and continuous improvement. 
    • Champion succession planning, coaching, and individual career development. 
  • Operational Excellence
    • Oversee day-to-day retail, rental, and My Epic Gear operations to ensure exceptional guest service and operational efficiency. 
    • Visit stores regularly to evaluate business performance and support leaders in solving operational challenges. 
    • Partner cross-functionally to streamline processes, optimize workflow, and elevate brand standards. 
    • Deliver on established KPIs surrounding financials, guest service, employee experience, inventory management, amongst others
  • Communication & Influence
    • Communicate clearly and effectively across all levels, both verbally and in writing, including the ability to story tell and influence through compelling narratives. 
    • Work collaboratively across functions (HR, Marketing, Real Estate, Buyers, Mountain Leaders, etc.) to align strategies and resources. 
    • Provide constructive feedback to drive enterprise-wide initiatives and enhance execution in the field. 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive multi-unit leadership experience in retail or related industry. 
  • Proven success in managing and developing diverse teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to story-tell and influence through both written and verbal communication. 
  • Demonstrated ability to foster high-accountability, team-oriented environments with a focus on growth and results. 
  • Skilled at interpreting financial reports and leveraging insights to drive business outcomes. 
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth, and customer-centric environments. 
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the region. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in outdoor or resort retail environments.
  • Strong understanding of guest experience and brand alignment
  • Advanced skills in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Track record of fostering high employee engagement, retention, and internal promotions. 

 

The expected pay range is $103,596 - $140,000 + annual bonus + equity. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
