The Summer Adventure Climbing Guide provides a safe, fun learning environment for our guests and employees. The employee will build lasting relationships with guests and employees, and be involved in a positive work environment.


Duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Report to work on time when scheduled.
  • Report to work in proper dress or uniform and groomed appropriately.
  • Observe all employee rules and regulations.
  • Observe all applicable safety standards.
  • Demonstrate positive attitude, especially in area of customer service.



  • Inspect the climbing areas daily, including fixed and movable equipment.  Document inspections legibly and professionally.  Report any concerns to the Manager/Supervisor immediately, and, when warranted, close features or remove equipment from service.
  • Performs pre-screening of clients verifying they meet adventure participant requirements
  • Provide clients with appropriate equipment.  Review with clients how to wear, use and remove equipment.
  • Orient clients to the climbing area through oral instructions and demonstrations. Be patient and considerate of clients’ needs and communicate in a clear manner.
  • Monitor client behavior and progress in the climbing area.  Learn to recognize when clients require assistance and coaching.  Be prepared to help, verbally and/or in a hands-on manner, when needed.
  • Provide warnings when observing clients who violate safety rules.  Repeated violations may result in the termination of the clients’ usage of the Stowe Rocks Climbing Center; Guides have the authority to expel clients who do not heed safety guidelines.
  • Provide climbing area maintenance when necessary. This may involve route resetting, wall cleaning or other tasks, and may be conducted on the ground or at height.
  • Perform technical rescues for clients in need of assistance.
  • Provide first aid as qualified, or summon first aid assistance from other staff members and/or community resources.


  • Environment:  Primarily Indoors.



  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must be guest-service oriented.
  • Must have minimum first aid qualifications including current CPR and accredited Basic First Aid certifications.
  • Ability to work at heights of 50’.
  • Ability to learn and to demonstrate technical rope work, and to use and demonstrate the use of climbing equipment such as carabiners, belay devices, pulleys, lanyards, etc.
  • Ability to perform physical activities that include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to perform very heavy work (defined as exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects).
  • Successfully completed Stowe Rocks Climbing Center Technical Rescue Training
  • Successfully completed Stowe Rocks Climbing Center Adaptive Climbing Experience  Program Training
  • Visual acuity necessary to inspect and monitor equipment and operations.
  • Good communication skills, both with coworkers and guests.
