Job Summary:
The Ski & Ride School Senior Manager is responsible for the overall guest experience within the Ski & Ride School. This is achieved by focusing on quality control of our products, financial management, teamwork, guest relations, employee development, creation and implementation of new programs and services, hiring, training, and leading the management team, handling administrative duties, and fulfilling personal development and job-specific responsibilities as defined by the Director of Skier Services.
Job Responsibilities:
- Direct and monitor the quality of Ski & Ride School products and staff to ensure an exceptional guest experience, alignment with resort and company goals, financial success, and the development of future products and programs.
- Oversee financial management for all operations, including budget development and achieving financial contribution goals through internal controls and strategic product development.
- Manage personnel, including hiring and professional growth of all staff, and lead operational and strategic planning for the school alongside the Director of Skier Services. Provide direct oversight of Supervisors and Managers
- Collaborate with the Director of Skier Services to meet or exceed all quality, financial, and safety goals for the Ski & Ride School.
- Coach, motivate, develop, and retain an industry-leading Ski and Ride School leadership team. Ensure leadership team is aligned with the goals and values of Stowe Mountain Resort and Vail Resorts.
- Develop and implement an operations plan to manage the business to predetermined margins, factoring in revenue opportunities, labor margins, expense control, and guest experience quality.
- Act as a leader of change, presenting and driving new initiatives from the company to the Ski & Ride School.
- Ensure that the Ski and Ride School leadership team coach and develop instructors and support staff, and complete timely performance reviews.
- Stay current on guest and employee health and safety regulations, including MSDS standards, universal precautions, child abuse guidelines, temporary background checks, emergency evacuation, and lightning procedures.
- Actively seek information about industry trends, competitors, and events, and remain engaged with professional organizations (e.g., PSIA/AASI).
- Partner and collaborate with all Stowe Mountain Resort departments and committees to ensure a consistent and high-level experience for the guests and employees.
- Monitor and maintain the quality and appearance of facilities, including on-mountain and base area buildings, sales locations, organizational yards, signage and program imaging, teaching terrain, and locker rooms. Perform other duties as assigned.
- Proactively contribute to enterprise-wide initiatives by participating in selected projects that drive company-wide results.
- Represent Vail Resorts within the local community.
Job Requirements:
- PSIA/AASI Level II Certification
- High level of proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to present data in a compelling, narrative form
- Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
- Basic accounting and finance skills.
- Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Previous experience as a Ski School Manager
- 5+ years as a ski or snowboard instructor
- Standing for long periods of time and handle exposure to inclement weather, bending, lifting, and squatting.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- PSIA/AASI Level 3 certification or equivalent.
- Competent use of RPOS, including Ski School Tools, RPOS Report Shell, ProConnect and Customer Manager, People Soft and Success Factors.
- Previous Vail Resorts Ski and Ride School manager or greater management experience.
The expected pay range is $70,000 - $90,000 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
