The Assistant Manager – Building Maintenance is responsible for the overall appearance and upkeep of the resort’s buildings and building infrastructure.  This position directly supervises a skilled team that is responsible for all aspects of building maintenance with a focus on the general construction elements – roofs, walls, floors, structure, windows, doors, siding, etc.  This position promotes a positive team culture and is a leader in safety.

Essential Job Functions:

Provide direct supervision, coaching and support to a team of building maintenance technicians, carpenters, painters and other trades.  Ensure that construction and safety standards are met.

Lead and manage the day to day operations of the building maintenance team – assign tasks, determine scheduling, manage event coverage; prioritize projects, and coordinate workplace safety in order to maintain our buildings and infrastructure in accordance with our high standards

Plan, assign and schedule preventative and corrective maintenance tasks.  Direct and supervise contractors and internal team members in the determination of project scope, approach, budget and timeline for projects across the resort.

Hire, provide training, offer development opportunities, manage performance, and deliver performance feedback and reviews for team members.

Assist in budget development for the department and individual projects – issue purchase orders, track costs to budget, approve invoices


Inspects work in progress to ensure work is performed in a professional, timely, and cost effective manner; make adjustments to efforts as needed; develops punch lists and coordinates effort required to complete tasks/projects.  Ensure quality work with premium results.

Utilizes workload management systems and other appropriate procedures to organize and manage department tasks and projects


Procure supplies and services in a timely and cost effective manner consistent with current policy.


Assume a leadership role in Stowe Mountain Resort’s workplace safety program.  Ensure that the building maintenance departmental safety initiative is at its highest level.


Partner with other resort departments to fulfill service requests.  Build and maintain a positive working relationship with individual department/facility leaders in order to develop a good understanding of the way their facilities can best be serviced. 

Interacts with guests professionally and efficiently.

Complete proper documentation of all maintenance tasks performed.

Performs all other related duties as assigned or requested including obeying safety policies and procedures and attending safety trainings.


5 years of experience in property maintenance or a trade (carpentry, electrical, mechanical) and contract supervision. Evidence of education initiative beyond high school is desirable - college courses, training, certifications.  Previous leadership or supervisory experience is desirable.

Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software – Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and OSHA standards.

Knowledge of standard business, construction and contracting practices.

Ability to interact with a wide variety of personalities, and differing points of view.

Ability to perform heavy work (defined as exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects)

Ability to work on mountain terrain, snow surfaces, ladders, roofs and other surfaces ranging from the natural environment to industrial areas.

Valid driver’s license with a clean record.  Ability to maintain certifications for driving company vehicles.
