Job Summary:  

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Ski Lift Maintenance Technician to oversee and execute the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all ski lift systems. This leadership role involves hands-on mechanical work, supervision of the maintenance team, scheduling of preventative and corrective maintenance, and ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is technically proficient, safety-driven, and a strong team leader.  

  

Job Specifications:  

  • Starting Wage: $25.45/hr - $33.93/hr  

  • Employment Type: Year Round  

  • Shift Type: Full Time hours available 

  • Minimum Age: At least 18 years of age  

  • Housing Availability: No 

  • Working Conditions: 

    • Outdoor alpine environment with exposure to extreme weather 

    • Physically demanding tasks including lifting, climbing, and kneeling 

    • Early mornings, weekends, holidays, nights and overtime shifts may be required 

 

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Lead, coordinate, and perform maintenance, inspections, and repairs on all aerial and surface lift systems 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues 

  • Assign daily tasks and monitor performance of lift maintenance staff 

  • Ensure work complies with ANSI B77.1, OSHA regulations, local regulations and Vail Resorts safety standards, policies and procedures 

  • Develop, document, and maintain preventative maintenance schedules 

  • Supervise and support seasonal maintenance, including tower work, grip and sheave service, and line inspections 

  • Provide training, mentoring, and hands-on guidance to junior technicians 

  • Respond to lift emergencies and minimize operational downtime 

  • Collaborate with mountain operations, lift operations, and safety teams 

  • Maintain accurate logs, inspection records, and compliance documentation 

  • Assist with planning lift upgrades, retrofits, and capital projects 

 

Job Requirements: 

  • 5+ years of experience in ski lift maintenance 

  • Deep understanding of lift systems, including drive assemblies, hydraulics, controls, and haul ropes 

  • Experience in leadership, training, or supervisory roles 

  • Proficient with diagnostic tools and maintenance software 

  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and at heights 

  • Must have or ability to obtain a valid US driver’s license 

  • Able to lift and carry 50 pounds 

  • Intermediate ski/snowboard ability preferred

The expected pay range is $25.45/hr - $33.93/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
