Job Summary:
The Senior Manager of Mountain Operations is responsible for leading all core mountain operations functions at Roundtop Mountain Resort, including Snow Surfaces (Snowmaking, Grooming, Terrain Parks), Lift Experience (Lift Operations & Scanning), Fleet Maintenance, Lift Maintenance, and Ski Patrol.This role ensures safe, dependable, and exceptional experience for both employees & guests.
 
The Sr. Manager plays a key leadership role in developing, communicating, and executing resort goals and initiatives while fostering strong internal and external relationships. Success in this role is driven by effective leadership, financial stewardship, accountability, operational excellence, employee development, and a strong safety culture.
 

Job Specifications:

  • Starting Wage: $70,944.80 - $93,494.73 + Annual bonus 

  • Employment Type: Year Round  

  • Shift Type: Full Time hours available 

  • Minimum Age: At least 18 years of age

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and promote a caring safety culture with a goal of zero workrelated injuries
  • Establish and manage departmental goals including operating budgets, capital projects, employee development, and operational performance
  • Ensure reliability and quality of all mountain facilities and services to deliver an exceptional guest and employee experience
  • Develop, oversee, forecast, and manage departmental operating and capital budgets
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and develop leaders and frontline employees; motivate,reward, and recognize performance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal partners and external stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with all ANSI, OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations
  • Improve operational efficiency through ongoing inter and intradepartmental communication and collaboration
  • Participate in enterprisewide best practice groups to drive companywide results
  • Serve as a Vail Resorts representative within the local community as needed
  • Support longterm planning and capital improvement initiatives across all mountain assets
  • Ensure all required operational, mechanical, and maintenance records are accurate, complete, and up to date
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
Job Requirements:
  • Prior mountain operations experience and/or comparable largescale operations leadership experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or peopleleadership experience
  • Experience with ROI analysis, financial forecasting, and capital project planning & management
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of mountain operations experience
  • Experience with Snowmaking Operations
  • Strong organization, administrative & communication skills
  • Experience with 365CoPilot & MaintainX or similar systems
  • Intermediate or higher-level skier or snowboarder

 

The expected pay range is $70,944.80 - $93,494.73 + Annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
