Job Summary
At Roundtop Mountain Resort, a Vail Resorts property, we create an Experience of a Lifetime for our guests and employees by delivering safe, reliable, and exceptional mountain operations. The Int: Lift Mechanic serves as a skilled, multi-discipline maintenance professional responsible for maintaining aerial lifts, fleet equipment, snowmaking infrastructure, and resort facilities.
This position plays a key role within the evolving Mountain Maintenance Team, supporting a collaborative maintenance model that enhances operational efficiency across Lift Maintenance, Fleet Maintenance, Snowmaking, and Mountain Operations. The successful candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a high-performing team dedicated to Vail Resorts' Core Values: Serve Others, Do Right, Drive Value, Do Good, and Be Inclusive.

Job Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Demonstrate an uncompromising commitment to Vail Resorts' safety culture.
- Follow all OSHA, ANSI B77, manufacturer, state, and company safety standards.
- Participate in daily safety briefings, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments.
- Properly utilize personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection systems, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Identify, communicate, and mitigate workplace hazards to ensure the safety of guests and employees.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory inspections, maintenance requirements, and documentation standards.
Lift Maintenance
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, adjustments, and repairs on aerial lifts, surface lifts, conveyors, and associated systems.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems.
- Conduct lift line inspections, tower maintenance, sheave train service, gearbox repairs, and rope handling activities.
- Assist with annual lift inspections, load testing, and regulatory compliance activities.
- Respond to lift breakdowns and operational interruptions in a safe and efficient manner.
- Support lift modernization projects, equipment upgrades, and capital improvement initiatives.
- Ensure lift reliability and availability to support exceptional guest experiences.
Fleet Maintenance Support
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor-to-intermediate repairs on resort fleet assets, including pickup trucks, UTVs, ATVs, snowmobiles, loaders, skid steers, excavators, backhoes, and other mobile equipment.
- Assist with diagnostics and repairs involving diesel engines, hydraulic systems, braking systems, electrical systems, drivetrain components, and emissions systems.
- Complete safety inspections and ensure fleet equipment meets company and regulatory standards.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and support rapid return-to-service efforts.
- Assist with seasonal fleet preparation, winterization, de-winterization, and equipment changeovers.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness.
Maintenance Planning & CMMS Utilization
- Utilize MaintainX and other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to manage work orders, track preventative maintenance activities, and maintain accurate asset histories.
- Document maintenance activities, inspections, labor hours, parts usage, and repairs according to departmental standards.
- Review, prioritize, and complete assigned work orders to support operational reliability goals.
- Assist in the development and execution of preventative maintenance schedules for lifts, fleet, snowmaking, and mountain infrastructure assets.
- Support asset management initiatives through accurate maintenance data collection and reporting.
- Maintain detailed records required for compliance, auditing, inspections, and operational planning.
Teamwork & Leadership
- Mentor and assist Mountain Maintenance Technician I team members.
- Collaborate with Lift Operations, Fleet Maintenance, Snowmaking, Ski Patrol, Facilities, and Mountain Operations teams.
- Share technical expertise and support cross-functional training opportunities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, efficiency, reliability, and guest satisfaction.
- Promote a culture of accountability, respect, inclusion, and teamwork.

Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in one or more of the following:
- Aerial Lift Maintenance
- Fleet Maintenance
- Heavy Equipment Maintenance
- Industrial Maintenance
- Diesel Technology
- Mechanical or Electrical Maintenance
- Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing equipment utilizing technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Experience using MaintainX, CMMS software, fleet management systems, or similar computerized maintenance platforms.
- Ability to accurately document work orders, inspections, preventative maintenance activities, and asset history records.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and emergency call-outs as required.
- Ability to safely work at heights and in varying outdoor weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally with assistance.
Preferred Requirements:
- Previous aerial lift maintenance experience.
- Diesel engine and heavy equipment repair experience.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Experience with snowmaking equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of ANSI B77, OSHA, DOT, and related regulatory requirements.
- Experience operating heavy equipment.
- Electrical troubleshooting experience including motor controls, PLCs, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Prior ski resort, mountain operations, or outdoor recreation industry experience.
- Industry certifications related to lift maintenance, industrial maintenance, welding, electrical systems, diesel technology, or heavy equipment maintenance.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb lift towers, ladders, stair systems, and access elevated work areas.
- Ability to work at heights greater than 50 feet.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Ability to work outdoors in snow, rain, wind, heat, and cold.
- Ability to safely operate tools, machinery, vehicles, and maintenance equipment.
The expected pay range is $24.24/hr - $30.29/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
