Job Summary:

The Ski & Snowboard school training specialist is responsible for assisting the Training Manager and Lead to create a positive training culture throughout the Ski and Snowboard Schools. This is achieved through supportive collaboration with supervisors, managers and the leadership team for training, lesson quality control, staffing suggestions and delivering high quality ski and snowboard school training.  This position reports directly to the Training Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Training Manager and Lead Trainer to schedule trainers, new hires, returning staff for mandatory trainings and continuing education training events. Follow up on scheduling and trainings adjustments as needed.  .
  • Collaborate with Supervisors and Managers to schedule specific trainings for department locations and business needs, including training for other departments as needed. 
  • Attend necessary weekly meetings for training, supervisor/manager meetings, one on one meetings with training manager etc. 
  • Provide clear and timely communication to employees, supervisors and managers regarding training plans and provide regular updates as information changes.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development guidance for developing trainers to help build the Northstar ski and snowboard training team.
  • Be a resource for all instructors to help them develop their professional abilities and career.
  • Participate in or lead indoor training sessions including, but not limited to, new hire department trainings, returning staff training, and continuing education.
  • Lead new and returning employees through multiday training programs.
  • Monitor, track and record training programs for the ski and snowboard school and other department employees participating in the Employee On Snow Assessment evaluation
  • Be responsible for the safety of your training groups by leading and demonstrating the skier and rider responsibility code to the highest level. Choose the correct terrain to match the abilities in the clinic and align with daily clinic agenda.
  • Provide immediate feedback to clinic participants in a clear and concise manner that is directly applicable to the clinic topic. Relate clinic topics to participants and how topic should be used in a fashion that will best enhance the Northstar guest experience. Create discussions for extended thinking for clinic participants relative to clinic topics.
  • To lead PSIA/AASI training clinics you must be current with both membership dues and education credits with PSIA/AASI or other recognized organizations: APSI, NZSIA, BASI, ISIA, USSA/USASA etc.
  • Provide quality lessons to guest when business levels are high for private or group lessons. Provide quality ski/snowboard lessons to group and individuals in a safe and fun manner while up holding with all company guidelines and state skier safety act/rules.
  • Be a role model and demonstrate the highest level of professionalism for new hires and returning staff, supervisors and management.
  • Have read and understand the Northstar resource and guidelines manual and function as a trainer in accordance with the resources and guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required 
  • Current PSIA/AASI Level 3 or equivalent certification required 
  • Three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel
  • Minimum of three years as a full-time instructor for a recognized ski and snowboard school
  • Excellent communication skills in a team setting
  • The ability to multi-task is a must
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritize various duties
  • Ability to maintain the organization of data

 

The expected pay range is $22.00 - $27.00. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
