Job Summary:  

Responsible for the oversight of all operational and administration functions of the Base Area Operations department throughout both winter and summer operations. Base Area Operations include transportation, snow removal, grounds, landscaping, parking, uniforms, employee lounge, and security/public safety for the resort. This leadership role requires strong strategic thinking and emotional intelligence to solve complex business challenges while ensuring operational excellence and compliance. The position also involves community engagement and sustainability initiatives, making it integral to the resort's success and guest experience.

 

Job Specifications:

  • Starting Wage: $79,745 - $97,895 + annual bonus

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the oversight of the village and grounds inclusive of parking lot maintenance, traffic flow, cleanliness, safety, and efficient ground transportation of guests and employees.
  • Provides leadership and development for managers throughout the division while supporting department operations, company policies and procedures.
  • Build and manage the department budgets and forecasts in conjunction with Director, Base Experience Administrative Assistant and Finance.
  • Function as a project manager for complex capital enhancements and general facilities maintenance improvements.
  • Develop and manage a world class guest service program that supports and leads all Vail Resorts guest service initiatives.
  • Partner with the Transportation manager to manage DISA, driver DQF's, Drug and alcohol screening program, all filings, reporting, renewals, and operating in compliance with all CPUC, and FMCSA regulatory standards. Maintain compliance with all U.S. Department of Transportation, State of California Public Utilities Commission, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Develop and manage safety and training program.
  • Liaise with agencies and HOA’s.
  • Actively participate in Ski Resort Transportation and Base Operations best practice groups and COE’s.
  • Actively grow and develop department bench strength, through delegating workloads at appropriate levels for individual growth, and utilize annual review performance management system to document successes and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee the completion of department accident and incident reporting, investigation, and related performance improvement planning.
  • Lead gains to be made on Vail Resorts Commitment to Zero 2030.
  • Oversee the maintenance of facility and equipment to ensure safe and efficient work environment.
  • Oversee all time and labor entries and approval of department payroll.
  • Resolve all guest related issues that may arise with the highest regard to guest service.
  • Responsible for supporting day-to-day operations.
  • Champion workforce management efforts and cross-utilization of resort front line staff.
  • Super user for all systems related to Base Area Operations including procurement systems, health and safety, and HR systems.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of management experience in resort operations or other multi-faceted operations.
  • Minimum 3 years project management experience or equivalent.
  • Strong leadership experience including hiring, training and performance management.

 

Preferred:

  • Commercial Drivers License.
  • Fire and Life safety code knowledge and management.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or project management.

 

The expected pay range is $79,745 - $97,895 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
