Job Summary:

The Competition Services Manager at Northstar is responsible for directing the day-to-day operation of the competition services department. The department is responsible for executing all on-mountain events, associated training and supporting the Northstar Teams training venues. This includes both winter mountain events and summer bike park events. This position requires a disciplined focus on safety, quality control, guest relations, sales generation in-line with the goals of Northstar, staff performance, team leadership, financial responsibility, communication, teamwork, administrative duties and self-development. All of these elements contribute significantly to the employee and guest experience at Northstar. This position will work closely with Northstar Teams, Bike Park and other Mountain Operations and Resort departments. This position reports directly to the Sr. Director of Mountain Operations.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safety is #1 priority for all competition services staff
  • Coach, motivate, develop and retain all competition services staff
  • Oversee completion of performance management for all staff
  • Ensure successful execution of all on-mountain events and competitions held at Northstar California, winter and summer
  • Responsible for all financial aspects of the competition center, including revenue, labor, expenses, monthly/end of season P&L’s and workers comp
  • Oversee all event contracts and insurance as required for all events
  • Oversee maintenance of all on and off-hill facilities and equipment, including safety and timing equipment
  • Attend all Resort and Mountain meetings as required
  • Partner and collaborate with all Northstar departments to ensure a consistent and high level experience for all employees and guest
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience within the snow sports/biking competition industry or mountain operations
  • US Ski & Snowboard Level Alpine Official and/or Coach certifications (level 1 minimum)
  • Experience hosting or competing in USA Cycling and/or UCI Mtn Bike events
  • High level of proficiency in Timing software, MicroSoft Office & Vail Resorts applications
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills
  • Strong intrapersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to lift and carry 75 lbs
  • Ability to work outside in variable conditions for long periods of time
  • Ability to work holidays, weekends and evenings
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must be able read, write, speak and communicate fluently in English
  • Position Justification: Backfill of Manager role


The expected pay range is $66,560 - $71,695 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
