Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and adventurous Assistant Manager to lead operations at Sunrise Grill—Kirkwood’s on-mountain, ski-in/ski-out dining destination. This location serves up quick-service lunch, grab-and-go snacks, and hearty BBQ menu items when the weather allows. The Assistant Manager fully oversees daily operations, staff management, food quality, and guest experience for this unique mountaintop venue.

Because Sunrise Grill is only accessible via skis or snowboard, this role requires intermediate to advanced skiing/riding ability. In addition, during winter storm cycles, the team is responsible for snow mitigation—digging out and preparing the location to welcome guests each day. Job Responsibilities:

Operations & Guest Experience

  • Manage all aspects of Sunrise Grill operations, including grab-and-go service, hot food production, and BBQ offerings
  • Maintain high food quality, presentation, and safety standards
  • Ensure the venue is clean, stocked, and guest-ready each day
  • Deliver exceptional guest service in a high-volume, fast-paced mountain setting
  • Coordinate with resort operations for weather-related adjustments and safety procedures

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise the Sunrise Grill team
  • Provide hands-on leadership in kitchen and service areas
  • Foster a positive, energetic team culture focused on safety, efficiency, and guest satisfaction
  • Conduct regular performance check-ins and provide feedback to staff

Inventory & Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory levels for food, beverages, and supplies
  • Manage ordering, deliveries, and vendor communication
  • Track sales, labor, and cost of goods to ensure profitability
  • Reduce waste through effective prep, rotation, and portion control

Snow Mitigation & Mountain Operations

  • Lead staff in snow removal and location preparation during storm cycles
  • Ensure safe access for guests and team members
  • Work closely with mountain operations to coordinate snowcat and snowmobile access as needed

Sustainability & Operational Support

  • Support the implementation of Commitment to Zero sustainability and recycling initiatives at the outlet, in coordination with the Resort Sustainability Manager.
  • Assist in training staff on Commitment to Zero programs, ensuring understanding of related expectations and providing ongoing feedback.
  • Provide hands-on assistance with waste sorting at outlet waste stations when needed.
  • Maintain high standards for food preparation, cleanliness, safety, and sanitation in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including regular evaluation of outlet waste systems and diversion programs.

 

Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years of food service or restaurant management experience
  • Intermediate or advanced skiing/riding ability (required for daily access to location)
  • Ability to lead and motivate a seasonal team in challenging weather conditions
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Serve Safe Manager, TIPS, and RBS certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in winter mountain conditions
  • Physically able to lift up to 50lbs and perform snow removal tasks

 

Preferred

  • Previous resort or on-mountain F&B experience
  • Passion for mountain sports and outdoor hospitality
  • Flexible, solutions-oriented mindset with strong leadership presence
  • Ability to thrive under pressure in a remote, high-volume environment

 

The expected pay range is Starting at $25.00/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
