Job Summary:
Tamarack Lodge is our Flagship restaurant at Heavenly Mountain Resort and serves as the first impression for thousands of guests each day located at the top of our gondola. This location is fast paced and high volume serving  multiple stations within its food court as well bar 9150, the deck bar and grill and our Mid station coffee shop located at our mid deck halfway up the gondola, alongside numerous seasonal activations, employee functions and private events, this operation combines high-volume quick service with elevated hospitality in one of North America's premier ski destinations.

 

The Assistant Manager serves as the operational leader for Tamarack Lodge and Café blue reporting directly to the General Manager, responsible for creating exceptional guest experiences, inspiring and developing high-performing teams, driving financial results, and ensuring the lodge consistently reflects Heavenly's commitment to hospitality, quality, and operational excellence. Success in this role means fostering an operation where employees take pride in their work and guests leave with memorable experiences that inspire them to return.

Job Responsibilities:

Guest Experience

  • Champion a guest-first culture by creating welcoming, memorable experiences throughout the operation.
  • Ensure all guest-facing spaces remain clean, organized, presentation-ready, and reflective of Heavenly's hospitality standards through daily operational walkthroughs.
  • Proactively resolve guest concerns while identifying opportunities to continuously improve the guest experience.
  • Execute seasonal activations, après programming, entertainment, and special events in partnership with resort leadership and Marketing.

Operations & Execution

  • Lead daily operations including staffing, production, service execution, inventory, and opening/closing readiness.
  • Ensure consistent execution of company standards while maintaining facility presentation, equipment readiness, and operational preparedness.
  • Support maintenance projects, renovations, and continuous operational improvements.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and applicable health, safety, food safety, and alcohol service regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, and business performance.

Financial Performance

  • Drive financial performance through effective labor management, purchasing, inventory controls, scheduling, and operational efficiencies.
  • Monitor key business metrics including sales, labor, food cost, inventory variance, productivity, and guest satisfaction to make informed business decisions and improve performance.
  • Identify opportunities to grow revenue through merchandising, menu execution, and operational innovation.
  • Ensure accurate operational reporting, inventory accountability, and financial controls.

People Leadership

  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop supervisors while fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, and operational excellence.
  • Build engaged, high-performing teams through coaching, recognition, and performance management.
  • Set clear expectations and hold leaders accountable for operational execution, safety, and guest service standards.
  • Successfully lead teams through operational changes while maintaining a positive and engaged culture.

Resort Partnership

  • Partner closely with Mountain Operations, Base Operations, Skier Services, Retail, Rentals, Ski School, Marketing, and other resort teams to deliver seamless guest experience.
  • Demonstrate a One Team mindset by supporting resort-wide initiatives, special events, and peak operational periods.
  • Serve as the primary operational leader for California Lodge during changing business conditions, weather events, and peak visitation periods.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Five or more years of progressive leadership experience managing high-volume food and beverage, hospitality, or resort operations.
  • Experience leading multiple supervisors and large seasonal teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated success managing financial performance, including labor, inventory, purchasing, food cost, and operating budgets.
  • Strong leadership, communication, coaching, conflict resolution, and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing multiple food and beverage concepts or outlets preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and operational reporting systems.
  • California Food Handler Certification and ServSafe Manager Certification required.
  • TIPS Certification, or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, and peak operating periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying mountain weather conditions.
  • Ability to successfully complete the required skiing or snowboarding assessment for mountain access.

 

 

The expected pay range is $25.00/h - $27.00/h. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
