Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Cloud Engineering to lead our cloud initiatives with a primary focus on Azure. This position will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and managing Azure cloud environments and will require deep expertise in cloud architecture, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), DevOps practices, and security policy management. This role will also involve overseeing aspects of on-premises datacenter management, including Active Directory and integration with cloud resources. The ideal candidate will have a strategic mindset, a strong technical background, and proven leadership abilities to guide a team toward delivering scalable and secure cloud solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cloud Strategy & Architecture:

    • Develop, implement, and manage the Azure cloud strategy, aligning it with overall business objectives.

    • Drive cloud adoption and best practices for architecture, deployment, and operational frameworks.

    • Oversee the design and management of Azure services and resources, ensuring scalability, performance, and reliability.

  2. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Automation:

    • Lead initiatives to implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, ARM templates, and Azure Bicep.

    • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate and streamline deployments, fostering a DevOps culture.

    • Implement automated testing, deployment, and rollback strategies to ensure stable and secure production environments.

  3. Security & Compliance:

    • Establish and enforce Azure policies, governance frameworks, and compliance requirements to meet industry standards.

    • Collaborate with the security team to enforce identity and access management policies and data protection best practices.

    • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments of cloud environments and implement corrective actions as necessary.

  4. Team Leadership & Development:

    • Lead a team of cloud engineers, providing mentorship, technical guidance, and career development support.

    • Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, promoting continuous learning and knowledge sharing within the team.

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, infrastructure engineers, and cybersecurity, to support business objectives.

  5. On-Premises Integration & Datacenter Management:

    • Oversee the integration between cloud and on-premises systems, including Active Directory, DNS, and hybrid cloud setups.

    • Provide direction for on-premises datacenter management and related infrastructure as required, ensuring seamless connectivity and resource availability.

    • Support migration strategies from on-premises to cloud where applicable, evaluating risks, and managing transitions effectively.

  6. Cost Optimization & Reporting:

    • Monitor and optimize cloud usage and spending, leveraging Azure Cost Management tools to drive efficiencies.

    • Develop metrics and dashboards for cloud performance, usage, and spend, reporting to senior management on the health and value of the cloud environment.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; a master’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering or architecture, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure.

  • 5+ years in a leadership role, managing and mentoring technical teams.

  • Proficient in IaC tools such as Terraform, ARM templates, and Azure Bicep.

  • Strong understanding of DevOps principles, including CI/CD, automation, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Experience with on-premises infrastructure management, especially around Active Directory, networking, and security.

  • Knowledge of cloud security frameworks, identity, and access management policies, and best practices in compliance and governance.

  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, strong analytical abilities, and a strategic mindset.

  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer, or equivalent are highly preferred.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in multi-cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and strategies for managing resources across multiple cloud platforms.

  • Experience in hybrid cloud and datacenter networking.

  • Knowledge of enterprise network security, firewall, and policy-based management.

  • Familiarity with cost management and resource optimization within the Azure ecosystem.

 

The expected Total Compensation for this role is $130,000 - $177,000 + annual bonus. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid’ work environment where employees living within 50 miles of the Broomfield office work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.  Employees living outside of a commutable distance can work remotely from British Columbia, Washington D.C., and the 16 U.S. states* in which we currently operate.
