Job Summary

The Regional Compliance Specialist will be responsible for supporting the implementation of Environmental, Operational, and Corporate Compliance programs within Vail Resorts’ Western Region. The Specialist will be primarily responsible for coordinating and executing water quality and watershed monitoring activities at all Tahoe resorts. The Specialist will also be responsible for supporting Environmental Compliance requirement monitoring and tracking using the enterprise Environmental Management System, performing compliance program training for resort stakeholders, and conducting compliance program audits and monitoring. This position will support the Regional Compliance Sr. Manager of the Western Region and will be based out of Heavenly Mountain Resort in Stateline, Nevada. This is not a remote position.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support implementation of Environmental Compliance programs at all resorts in the Western Region including enterprise-wide air pollution control, hazardous materials management, hazardous and universal waste management, water quality, oil pollution prevention, drinking water, and dam management programs.
  • Support on-mountain water quality monitoring activities including sample collection and preservation, chain-of-custody development, sample packaging, laboratory coordination, and analytical result review and reporting.
  • Support on-mountain watershed assessments including erosion control monitoring and best management practice (BMP) performance evaluations.
  • Support implementation of Operational Compliance and Corporate Compliance programs including culture and training initiatives, policy management programs, and monitoring and auditing projects to mitigate enterprise-wide compliance risks.
  • Support 1 to 2 special projects and support environmental compliance requests within the Western Region.
  • Perform bi-weekly to monthly environmental compliance walkthroughs at all Tahoe resorts, including maintenance shops, fuel storage facilities, construction projects, snowmaking pumphouses, lift motor rooms, drinking water facilities, waste storage sites.
  • Support implementation of Enablon tool including uploading permit documentation, creating and maintaining recurring compliance tasks/scenarios, and updating equipment and materials inventory data.
  • Liaise with local leadership, mountain operations, and health & safety teams to monitor compliance risks.
  • Be a change champion for Ethics and our Do Right value and all associated programs.



  • Bachelor’s degree required in Environmental Engineering; Environmental Sciences; Environmental Management; Environmental, Health and Safety; or other related fields
  • 1 to 3 years of experience supporting projects in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Hands-on, technical experience with environmental programs and policies
  • Experience conducting water quality sampling and monitoring preferred
  • Self-starter; demonstrated ability to work unsupervised
  • Excellent learning agility and ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment and evolving team dynamic
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage upwards
  • Proficient in identifying and resolving issues independently – solid sense of accountability and sound personal judgement
  • Competent ski and/or snowboard abilities required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to travel required
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds required
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions
  • Must be able to hike for extended periods of time in mountain terrain



The expected pay range is $22.00-$29.09. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
