Job Summary:
The Senior Specialist of Workers’ Compensation will work within the Workers’ Compensation team, overseeing assigned workers’ compensation claims to provide support to injured workers while controlling claim costs. This position is responsible for the management of all routine aspects of workers compensation claims ensuring compliance with WC regulations across multiple US jurisdictions as well as Canada. Responsibilities include effectively coordinating with stakeholders, facilitating return-to-work/recover-at-work, overseeing TPA’s administration of claims, and providing support to employees who have suffered workplace injury.

Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the oversight of medical and indemnity claims, including proactive communication and coordination with the injured worker, supervisor, medical provider, and claims adjuster to ensure efficient and timely claim closure
- Promptly review employee incidents as they are reported to determine employee eligibility for compensation benefits
- Ensure compliance with state workers’ compensation regulations and Worksafe BC, identify any gaps in compliance, provide recommendations on solutions, and work with internal and external counsel, HR, and Health & Safety team, and other identified stakeholders to implement solutions.
- Review and analyze US monthly workers’ compensation financial report for accuracy. Correct and report inaccuracies to affected stakeholders.
- Identify areas for process improvement in workers’ compensation claim handling, research potential solutions, and establish best practice
- Liaise with the employee, medical provider, and supervisor to promote a safe return to work aligned with temporary medical restrictions
- Collaborates with legal counsel on litigated claims, conducts settlement analyses, and provides recommendations on claim resolution
- Completes required annual, biannual, and quarterly self-insured workers’ compensation reporting in identified states
- Identifies claims for and actively engages in quarterly reviews with third-party administrators. Collaborate with adjusters, nurse case managers, and brokers on ways to move claims toward closure.
- Supports work comp manager with annual workers’ compensation presentation to resorts; provides ongoing work comp support and training to local teams throughout the year as needed. Attend site visits and provide on-site training as needed
- Reviews incidents for OSHA recordability and assists with annual OSHA and BLS reporting and compliance
- Able and willing to take on additional tasks & responsibilities as the program continues to evolve and expand
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- BA or BS Degree
- 1-3 years of experience in workers’ compensation or related field. Experience can be in the area of claims adjusting, oversight of employer work comp programs, return-to-work programs, or oversight of medical provider relationships.
- Proven administrative experience showing planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Experience working with confidential information
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Aptitude to learn new software programs
- Bi-lingual in Spanish (preferred)
- Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated
- Multi-tasking and strong attention to detail necessary
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations (preferred)
- WC Claims adjusters license an asset
The expected Total Compensation for this role is $55,000 - $64,000. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
