Job Summary

The Sr. Manager of Data Governance is a critical role to our developing and ongoing data governance practice to ensure the accuracy and integrity of our data across our enterprise. This person will lead the Data Governance effort for the company with the support of the broader Business Intelligence and Data Enablement organization. They are responsible for the development and implementation of the Data Governance program focused on accuracy, integrity, completeness, accessibility, and validity of Vail Resorts’ data. The Data Governance framework encompasses all data components across a complex enterprise data warehouse that supports our corporate BI, analytics, and data driven capabilities as well as collaborating with key data owners across the company.

 

This role will also be responsible for creating and maintaining consistent reference data and master data definitions. Provide the structure for data classification to support our enterprise data privacy initiatives. Understands the business value of data and communicates the importance of information to the organization in partnership with business counterparts and data governance processes. Actively participates in decision making, process development, and identification of short- and long-term objectives with respect to data management practices. Communicates and enforces data processes, procedures, and standards. Seeks ways to improve data management practices based on expertise and experience.

 

As a key addition to the Business Intelligence and Data Enablement leadership team, reporting to the Senior Director of Business Intelligence & Data Enablement, the Sr. Manager of Data Governance will play a critical role in coordinating strategy, sustaining excellence and nurturing team culture and growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains Data Governance strategy and foundation with a focus on user adoption, change management, sustainability, and effectiveness.
  • Identifies stakeholder needs in relation to Data Governance involvement via controls and processes.
  • Organizes the function and process of data management within the organization.
  • Assesses data needs and work with business leaders to define standards and policies to ensure data is compliant with defined information, process and quality requirements.
  • Identifies and executes continuous improvement opportunities within the data management processes in the applicable systems.
  • Collaborates with key users and operational groups to identify business needs, data usage requirements, and validation metrics.
  • Works with the development team to contribute to the creation of tools and processes to maintain a common data standard.
  • Creates and maintains data definitions.
  • Provides data subject matter expertise to various project teams as it relates to data management and governance.
  • Understands and communicates impacts of data components across all systems.
  • Partners with leadership to implement new processes and procedures for more efficient ways to maintain the overall data quality in all systems.
  • Works autonomously and applies judgment and decision making in Data Governance related issues
  • Supports the effort to develop data reporting such as key metrics, project trackers, and dashboards.
  • Facilitates the development and maintains data dictionary and structures across applicable systems.
  • Establishes efficient validation processes that can be carried out consistently to ensure data accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Information Security to classify and establish processes related to our Enterprise Data Privacy Policies (CCPA, GDPR, etc.)

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field; or equivalent experience in related field(s)
  • 5+ years of experience in a data management or analysis related role
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems, data modeling, and data warehouse concepts
  • Ability to perform data analysis and data anomaly detection
  • Proficient with SQL and Excel
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to build relationships, interact and communicate with customers who have varying levels of expertise
  • Ability to partner with key stakeholders to lead change through process
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information to less technical users
  • Ability to communicate in-depth business processes to technical resources
  • Ability to perform fit/gap analysis based on requirements

 

 

The budgeted range starts at $112,000 - $140,250 + annual bonus.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
