Job Summary

The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for proactively promoting Vail Resorts and its various lines of business. Reporting to the Manager of International and National Media Relations, this Senior Specialist will work alongside the Communications team to develop seamlessly executed public relations campaigns and targeted media outreach. A successful candidate will demonstrate drive and resourcefulness, a keen attention to detail and strong analytical, interpersonal and project management skills.

 

This role is based out of Vail Resorts’ headquarters in Broomfield, Colo., though corporate employees are currently working remotely.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Support the implementation of strategic media relations plans to advance Vail Resorts business objectives and initiatives
  • Create compelling story angles to proactively pitch to a variety of media, from traditional print and broadcast to blogs, influencers and emerging channels
  • Develop media relations materials, including: press releases, fact sheets, tip sheets, talking points and social media content
  • Handle daily local, regional and national media inquiries and serve as a Company spokesperson and ambassador to media
  • Cultivate local, regional and national relationships with key media and influencers to maximize story placements, including coordinating and hosting media trips, and conducting desk-side visits in top markets
  • Facilitate interviews with functional experts and provide appropriate messaging and preparation
  • Stay apprised of media and industry trends, as well as competitive insights
  • Develop, monitor, track and analyze appropriate metrics to evaluate external communications performance; effectively report this analysis to key stakeholders and proactively develop strategic recommendations for adjusting future efforts based on those results
  • Advise the communications team and internal business partners on best practices and strategic recommendations for future media relations efforts
  • Provide administrative support to the Communications team, as needed; includes assisting with the management of departmental budget, contracts and communications technology (i.e. Cision, Sprout Social, etc.)

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred
  • 1-2+ years of experience in related field required
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills with knowledge of AP style
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), media monitoring tools (Cision, Meltwater), social media monitoring tools (Sprout Social)
  • Experience with basic video/photo editing programs preferred
  • Knowledge of the ski/snowboard industry a plus

 

The budgeted range starts at $50,000-$60,900.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
