JOB DESCRIPTION

Vail Resorts is seeking a Mountain Operations Paralegal to join our Legal team in Broomfield, Colorado. The successful candidate will have 3-10 years of experience, preferably in an in-house or government setting, is self-motivated, adaptable and will be able to handle a wide range of unique issues, communicate with business clients (including executives and front line employees), manage competing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  •         Draft/review correspondence, policies, procedures, FAQs and training materials relating to on-mountain and resort best practices.
  •         General legal and compliance research and support on issues related to on-mountain and resort operations, including environmental law, public lands, water rights, land use/agency permits, zoning, tramway acts, HOA/metro district issues, statutory requirements and a broad range of regulatory matters.
  •          Provide assistance to operations teams with licensing and permitting, including research, drafting/revising forms, FAQs and training materials, and communicating directly with permitting agencies.
  •         Research land use questions, including permitted uses, restrictions and zoning.
  • Support real estate transactions, including due diligence, contract review, document preparation, closing mechanics and post-closing integration and administration.
  • Draft easements, encroachments, releases of rights of first refusal and other routine agreements relating to real estate and resort operations.
  •          Assist with issues relating to the management of and interaction with HOAs and metro districts.
  •          Create reports for, provide updates on and project manage team legal tasks and internal initiatives.
  •          Assist with recording documents with relevant County recorder offices and track payments for same.
  •          Provide administrative support as required, including scheduling, expense reports, document filing, recordkeeping and the preparation of applications or other documents necessary to comply with federal, state and local requirements in the conduct of mountain and resort operations.
  •          Act as a liaison with designated outside counsel and paralegal staff.
  •          Other duties as assigned.

 Skills & Experience:

  •          BS/BA from accredited college or university. 
  •          3-10 years’ experience working in a corporate, government or law firm setting.
  •          Must have strong PC skills with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook) as well as the ability to learn and use other computer systems and databases.
  •          Preferred experience supporting and closing transactions.
  •          Exceptional interpersonal skills, a commitment to professionalism, integrity and collegiality, and the ability to work on a wide range of legal matters.
  •          Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with individuals at various levels within the organization, including high level executives.
  •          Must be an organized and diligent worker, display grace under pressure, exhibit flexibility and positivity to various types of projects, be open to accepting feedback, be a utility player and strong teammate, independent, self-directed, have a good sense of humor and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  •          Must be able to work under tight deadlines, handle multiple, detailed tasks simultaneously, prioritize appropriately and delegate to resources available.
  •          Must have ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  •          Must be able to anticipate problems and issues and exercise independent judgment to make sound, justifiable decisions and take action in solving problems while knowing when and to whom to escalate issues.
  • Proficiency with skiing or snowboarding.
