Summary of Job

Mountain News is seeking a Front End Developer.  In this role, you will work within our existing small, but highly-collaborative development team and report to the Senior Manager, Digital Experience. We are looking for someone willing to learn new things, open to new ways of thinking and ready to help improve the front end of our sites. Our goal with this position is for a mid-level front end developer to join our team with a solid foundation in Node.js & Mongo, then grow into an integral part of our digital experience team. As the Front End Developer, you will be responsible for helping to implement new designs and ideas and providing feedback on designs and best practices. You will need excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment to be successful.

Responsibilities

  • Develop using existing user focused wireframes, mock ups, and provide clear feedback to the designer
  • Use site and user data to support ideas and guide decisions when developing solutions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve the user experience of our sites
  • Maintain and enhance the front end of the sites using HTML5, JavaScript and CSS
  • Help continually refine the best practices for our code repository in Node.js, documentation and other processes
  • Understand the importance of budgets and priorities
  • Proactively communicate to gain alignment on projects and new ideas

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years experience in front end development role
  • Strong communication skills
  • Significant experience with Node.js, Mongo DB, GitHub and command line commits
  • Experience using Jira, Confluence or other ticketing and documentation platforms
  • Experience with React and React Native or similar language
  • Develop for responsive and cross-browser compatibility
  • Understanding of modern browser capabilities and ADA best practices
  • General understanding of SEO as it relates to development
  • Comfortable working in an Agile development environment and able to respond to changing business priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility and strong working relationships across the organization and with outside partners

Additional Skills

  • Development experience on an international scale
  • Familiar with developing for a multi-lingual site and using translations
  • Experience with app development using React Native and the app store deployment and review process
  • Project management and ticketing skills
  • Ski resort or hospitality experience and passion
  • Ability to use data to support your ideas
  • Familiar with Google Analytics
