Job Summary:

We are looking for a seasoned communications professional who’s passionate about telling our story externally and amplifying the issues facing our industry that require collective participation. The successful candidate will be both strategic and resourceful – able to dream up big ideas and execute on them. From securing high-profile earned media coverage to influential thought leadership opportunities, the ideal Director of Corporate Communications excels at media relations, issues management, strategic communications and leading & inspiring a team.


Responsibilities in this role:

  • Develop and drive a proactive communications strategy to promote the company’s corporate responsibility efforts
  • Provide strategic guidance to leaders across the company on communications surrounding corporate reputation initiatives
  • Manage the voice of Vail Resorts through owned channels, including website content and social media
  • Identify and secure thought leadership opportunities for the company’s senior leaders to amplify the company’s efforts
  • Build critical cross-functional relationships and alignment with key business partners, including Marketing, Community Relations, Government Relations, and Sustainability
  • Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with national, local and endemic media and influencers
  • Serve as a key communications representative for the company; when necessary, act as spokesperson for interviews in print publications, television and radio



  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Journalism, Communications or Marketing
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a communications role
  • Excellent writer able to draft nuanced communications on a variety of topics
  • Builds on strategic and innovative thoughts/ideas
  • Can simultaneously execute on multiple, overlapping projects
  • Continuously adapts to changes and effectively navigates through ambiguity; decides and acts without having the picture totally defined; appropriately changes strategy in response to new information
  • Drives for results – makes things happen and conveys a sense of urgency
  • Demonstrates project/program management and analytical skills with the ability to identify and understand complex problems, make decisions, create plans and solutions, and take action
  • Effectively manages stakeholders
  • Experience with all forms of external communications channels, especially news media and social media
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, including ability to work with people from various cultures and areas of the business; builds and maintains highly effective working relationships
  • Works effectively at the Executive level and with leadership teams across the organization
  • Demonstrates strong business and financial acumen
