The Hospitality Communications Manager is responsible for promoting and protecting the public image of the Company’s hospitality and real estate divisions, in conjunction with the Company’s destinations and other lines of business, in order to drive bottom-line revenue. Primary responsibilities include advising on reputation management, strategic and proactive media relations around key messages, managing the Company’s agency of record, external messaging, and advising on internal communication efforts.


The Hospitality Communications Manager will be focused on securing coverage and high-funnel awareness of top Vail Resorts Hospitality and RockResorts properties in and around the Company’s resorts, particularly in Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Park City. The Hospitality Communications Manager works closely with the other corporate communications teams, resort communications teams, hospitality marketing managers and property GMs and other key staff to support these efforts and tie in to larger Vail Resorts messages and priorities.


The Hospitality Communications Manager will also support communications for other lines of business within the Company’s hospitality division, including real estate development as well as groups/meetings and weddings, transportation and retail as needed. The position will also work with resort management and public affairs to address community issues and positively enhance the Company’s image.


Other roles and responsibilities include and are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement public relations priorities in concert with the hospitality marketing, hospitality operations and resort communications teams.
  • Manage crisis communications with property leadership, health and safety, legal and other internal or external partners.
  • Develop and maintain departmental budget and manage ongoing invoices.
  • Develop and maintain media tools such as: online newsroom, press releases when appropriate, fact sheets, talking points, photo and b-roll library, etc.
  • Cultivate local, regional and national relationships with key media to maximize story placements that are in line with target publications and audiences, all in concert with other communications team members. Research and ultimately pursue new media contacts, influencers and/or channels/outlets that resonate with target audiences while working with agreed-upon tools and resources to do so.
  • Work with the collective communications team using a supportive and collaborative approach to promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality. Establish performance goals, align on accountabilities, objectives and priorities.
  • Facilitate interviews with subject matter experts across the division and provide appropriate messaging and preparation.
  • Advocate internally to uphold media relations best practices and enterprise-wide media policies.
  • Assist with planning, logistics and hosting of media trips, ensuring an Experience of a Lifetime for targeted media guests.
  • Represent the division in enterprise-wide collaborative efforts, ancillary businesses and the Vail Resorts brand during travel or outreach to key markets.
  • Develop, implement and maintain appropriate metrics to evaluate impacts and effectiveness of external communications and third-party agency efforts.
  • Create and implement new procedures and tools to enhance department and staff efficiency.
  • Maintain reasonable availability for media and management teams.



  • Bachelor's Degree in journalism or communications preferred.
  • 5+ years public relations and/or related field experience required.
  • Knowledge of hospitality, travel/tourism and/or ski/snowboard industries; familiarity with mountain and lodging operation procedures; crisis communications experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and social media networks such as Instagram and Facebook required; experience with basic video/photo editing programs desired.
  • Individual should also possess advanced writing skills, knowledge of established and emerging media, interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate consistently with a team that spans North America. Individual should be comfortable hosting journalists on the mountain while skiing or snowboarding, or identify alternative means to provide on-mountain hosting methods.
