Job Summary

Vail Resorts is seeking a Mountain Operations Paralegal to join our Mountain Resorts Counsel team in Broomfield, Colorado. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience, preferably in an in-house, law firm or government setting, is self-motivated, adaptable and will be able to handle a wide range of unique issues, communicate with a wide range of business clients (from executives to front line employees), manage competing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
 

Job Responsibilities

  • General legal and compliance research and support on issues related to on-mountain and resort operations, including environmental, public lands, water rights, land use/agency permits, zoning, tramway acts, HOAs, metro districts and local municipalities, statutory requirements and a broad range of regulatory matters.
  • Create reports, provide updates, and project manage team tasks and initiatives.
  • Collaborate on, devise and drive team process improvements.
  • Problem solve and coordinate with other departments and teams to find comprehensive solutions to multi-faceted issues.
  • Provide assistance to operations teams with licensing and permitting obligations, including triage, drafting/revising forms and communicating directly with permitting agencies.
  • Support real estate transactions, including project managing and assisting with due diligence processes, reviewing contracts, preparing closing documents, creating closing checklists, managing closing mechanics and handling post-closing issues.
  • Draft easements, encroachments, releases of rights of first refusal and other routine agreements relating to real estate and resort operations.
  • Support commercial and retail leasing related transactions, including revising form lease amendments, renewals, extensions and terminations.
  • Assist with issues relating to the management of and interaction with HOAs, hotels, rental property owners, master associations, developers, adjacent property owners and other relationships impacting mountain and resort operations, including hospitality operations.
  • Assist with recording documents with relevant county recorder offices and track payments for same.
  • Prepare applications or other documents necessary to comply with federal, state and local requirements in the conduct of mountain and resort operations.
  • Draft/review correspondence, policies, procedures, FAQs and training materials relating to mountain and resort best practices.
  • Act as a liaison with outside counsel and contract and supervise other outside resources such as title companies, surveyors, and consultants.
  • Provide administrative support as required, including scheduling, expense reports, document filing and recordkeeping.
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

 Job Qualifications

  • BS/BA from accredited college or university. 
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience working in a corporate, government or law firm setting.
  • Strong PC skills with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook) as well as the ability to learn and use other computer systems and databases such as Smartsheet.
  • Real estate experience, including supporting real estate transactions from diligence through closing.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, a commitment to professionalism, integrity and collegiality, and the ability to work on a wide range of legal matters.
  • Must be a driven, organized and diligent worker who remains calm under pressure, exhibits flexibility and positivity when involved in various types of projects, is open to hearing and growing from feedback, is a utility player and an agile and humble teammate, is proactive, independent and self-directed, and has a great sense of humor!
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work with individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and grow professional relationships with internal and external teams.   
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced environment, work under tight deadlines, handle multiple, detailed tasks simultaneously, prioritize appropriately and delegate to available resources.
  • Must anticipate problems and issues and exercise sound judgment to make reasonable and justifiable decisions and take action in solving problems while knowing when and to whom to escalate issues.
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality.
