Job Summary:

As one of two Snowmaking Supervisors you will be one of a proud and respected team producing great quality snow on Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Assisting the Senior Manager Snowmaking you will oversee all snowmaking operations on Whistler and/or Blackcomb Mountains. You will co-ordinate the department’s operations with all other departments involved to develop daily action plans. These plans will be passed to the shift supervisors for implementation. This involves high level assessments with an understanding of short, medium and long term production goals. You will be continually reviewing various weather modeling, adjusting plans and communicating accordingly.  You will also be responsible for and oversee administrative tasks including but not limited to scheduling, payroll and HR administration, safety, vehicle, equipment and environmental protection, staff evaluations, progressive discipline, and recognition. You will inspire your staff by leading through example with excellent work ethic and a positive attitude. You will be a key player ensuring great guest and staff experience at Whistler Blackcomb.


What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing our guests and staff with an experience of a lifetime
  • Abide by all Whistler Blackcomb policies and procedures at all times on or off the mountains
  • Perform all tasks safely as per Worksafe and Whistler Blackcomb policies and procedures
  • Produce great quality and/or specific density snow on the mountains using fan and air/water equipment
  • Coordinate and oversee plans, with goals and their timelines to meet snow requirements for the mountains’ planned or spontaneous target dates
  • Develop and communicate strategies and plans with all intra and extra-departmental team players concerned (i.e. Snowmaking maintenance, Grooming, Ski School, Terrain Park)
  • Oversee all snowmaking operations, including the safe operation of equipment and vehicles
  • Oversee quality and quantity production through the use of various equipment technologies and procedures
  • Oversee and continually develop, promote and oversee operations staff safety and well-being, enforcing rules and protocols through progressive discipline as necessary
  • Oversee and continually develop, improve and document training procedures
  • Create weekly work schedules, striving to safe guard staff health and control labour cost
  • Document snowmaking production statistics
  • Operate various types of motorized equipment on and off the mountain
  • Typically work up to 12 hour shifts between 7:00 am and 7:30 pm
  • Perform minor maintenance duties as required
  • Attend all necessary meetings and complete courses as scheduled

  • Currently employed as a Team Lead in good standing
  • OFA level 3 safety attendant certificated
  • Positive attitude with record of excellent work ethic and safe practices
  • Confident, self motivated team player and team builder
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and teaching skills
  • Calm, flexible and diplomatic under pressure
  • Able to think and work independently, but as part of a team
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills 
  • Exceptional conflict management and skills
  • Strong intuitive skill, ‘able to think outside the box’
  • Four years snowmaking experience
  • At least one year snowmaking supervisor experience
  • Proficient in both fan gun and air/water snowmaking production
  • Proficient in MS computer and administrative skills
  • Good understanding of on-line weather modelling
  • Possess a valid BC driver’s license. Up to date transcript required
  • Proficient in the operation of snowmobiles, UTV’s and snow cats
  • Physically fit able to perform demanding manual tasks
  • Capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Capable of working with no fixed schedule, but rather one that adjusts with weather
  • Capable of working five or more 12 hour shifts in a row
  • Capable of working either daytime or nighttime schedules
  • Able to ski or snowboard at an intermediate or better level
  • Good mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Required to complete a satisfactory criminal record check
