This is an opportunity to work at one of the newly renovated hotels in the Marriott and Vail Resorts family, The Hythe, a Luxury Collection Resort, Vail. Located in Lionshead, The Hythe Vail is One Ski Hill Place is a 345 room hotel with 30,000 square feet of meeting space located steps away for the base of Vail ski mountain.  Come join our world class team as the Director of Engineering.

 

Strong supervisory, leadership, communication and organizational skills are required.  This position is responsible to supervise day-to-day staff operations of the engineering department, loss prevention team, applicable HOA duties and sits on the Executive Committee working to lead the vision to be the leader in luxury hospitality. Will coordinate minor maintenance for major projects for the property and monitor all activities of departments as well as contractors through within the property. Primary contact with resort leaders, homeowners (16), local government officials, Diamond Rock Hospitality, Vail Resorts, or other primary project management entities.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain complete knowledge of all departmental operations.  Attend and participate in weekly department meetings, informing employees of latest released changes within the property or standards by Luxury Collection Marriott, Diamond Rock Hospitality and/or Vail Resorts.
  • Meet twice daily (Pre and Post shift)with Engineering staff to discuss issues, work assignments, and provide any necessary trainings to include Luxury Collection standard of the day and safety topic of the day.
  • Monitor the utilization of the work order management system to ensure property and grounds are maintained to the highest standards
  • Coordinate all major resort projects; work with General Manager and applicable departments to ensure quality and minimal guest/operational impact
  • Administer programs involving electrical, mechanical and general construction, repair and maintenance of existing facilities and equipment. 
  • Creating, Posting, and reviewing weekly schedules
  • Exercise monthly control over all R&M and Capital expenses. Comply with budgeted/Forecasted goals
  • Must be available for on call emergencies and any other reasonable requests that may come up.  Responsible for staying until the job is done.   
  • Support Resort operations through consistent interaction and focus on teamwork.
  • Visually inspect quality of work and direct staff and outside contractors in task according to performance and productivity standards
  • Ensure compliance with company policy on vehicle operation.  Maintain vehicle maintenance records and schedules
  • Ensure all inspections and certifications for property equipment are completed as required
  • Maintain all pools and hot tubs according to established standards
  • Responsible for ordering parts and items necessary for repair of building and units
  • Assign and verify completion of routine maintenance and operations of physical structure of property, all mechanical, electrical HVAC systems, and any other related equipment which contributes to the safe and affective operation of the facility.  Ensure room PM's documented 2 times per year, subject to brand standards.  Ensure all Luxury Collection standards for engineering are followed
  • Oversee the hiring, training, counseling, and discipline of engineering staff
  • Document engineering work in forms that can be directly applied to the billing program as needed
  • Responsible to scheduling and performing payroll duties
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meeting to include Luxury Collection and/or Vail Resorts standard of the day and safety topic of the day.
  • Responsible for attending company training classes as deemed appropriate
  • Responsible for staying until the job is done
  • Responsible for following up with team and contractors to ensure quality standards are met within a timely manner.  Must be able to coach and train team on work skills, safety, brand standards, timeliness, etc
  • Will be required to work hands on and assist team with work orders and emergencies
  • Responsible for all Life Safety systems and general safety on property to include carbon monoxide, fire suppression, fire monitoring, snow and ice removal, etc. Responsible for communicating with all departments on any engineering issues,  as well as the General Manager and the Executive Committee and Senior Leadership Team.
  • Responsible for overseeing Loss Prevention Manager and team, who manage shipping and receiving, lost and found, Warehouse Manager, uniform distribution and safety and security of the building, staff and guests.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job requirements:

  • High school diploma or trade school degree
  • Minimum of three years experience in maintenance
  • Minimum of five years supervisory experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Competent computer skills
  • Ability to communicate detailed information to guests and employees. English proficiency

The budgeted range starts at $80,000 - $97,700 + annual bonus.  Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.
