Job Summary: 
Provide interpretation for guests about the park. Assist the Captain in all normal cruise boat operations and maintenance functions.  Maintain complete working knowledge of all safety and emergency procedures.  Maintain and clean cruise boats on a daily/weekly basis. Act as a backup cruise boat operator in case of incapacitation of Captain.  Perform other duties as assigned by Cruise boat captain and Marina Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Must be knowledgeable of park resources and provide the interpretation/narration as directed by the boat captain.
  • Inspect and clean inside and outside of the assigned cruise boat each morning, especially windows. Report all exceptions and problems to the Captain.
  • Check the level of all engine fluids daily.  Log results in maintenance log    
  • Check all bilges, bilge pumps, strainers, and electronics daily.
  • Check all safety equipment for condition/operation daily.
  • Dump all trash containers regularly
  • Assist in the loading/unloading of passengers
  • Assist in the docking of the cruise boat.
  • Assist passengers and present a professional appearance and attitude during the cruise.
  • Assist the Chef(s) in the daily serving of Elk Island meals
  • Assist the Captain in the re-fueling of the Cruise Boat
  • Check engine compartment and cabin bilge thoroughly for any leaks or abnormalities.  Report irregularities to the Captain.
  • Assist in maintenance activities associated with cruise boat operations including boats, docks, and Elk Island equipment.
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of all emergency procedures.  Skills include but are not limited to Fire procedure, “man overboard” procedure, radio communications, passenger medical emergency and fuel spill procedures.
  • Develop and maintain the skill required to execute all emergency procedures with or without the assistance of the Captain. This would include the operation and docking of the boat if necessary.
  • Demonstrate all emergency operation skills during monthly training and testing of these skills.  These training sessions to be conducted by a licensed Captain.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements: 

  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification from an accredited agency current within the last year
  • Strong Verbal English Skills
  • Basic boat handling skills
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol test and random drug tests per USGC
  • Complete comfort in public speaking
  • Great people skills, interpretive specialist training, tour guide experience
  • Previous experience with Public Speaking
