Job Summary:

Perform tasks normally associated with boiler operator/attendant, monitoring the steam plants for safe and energy efficient operations. Maintain the boiler room equipment and fixtures in excellent condition keeping all records required by local and state regulations. You are expected to adhere to the company’s mission, vision and value statements. Be knowledgeable of the company’s management systems, policies and initiatives for Hospitality, Environmental, and Health and Safety. You have specific responsibilities within these areas and are expected to understand them.

 

Job Specification:

  • Starting Wage: $22.00/hr
  • Employment Type: Summer Seasonal 2026
  • Shift Type: Full Time hours available

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in identifying opportunities to reduce energy use in boiler operations.
  • Ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner in a safe environment.
  • Observe all requirements for the GTLC Hazard Communication Program
  • Attend training and observe all applicable OSHA and other regulatory compliance programs and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required by human resources and the EH&S office. Programs include, but not limited to: permit-required confined spaces; respiratory protection; blood-borne pathogens; personal protective equipment (PPE); hearing conservation; lockout-
  • tagout; spill prevention, control, and countermeasure plan; drivers safety; and, general proper operation of machinery and equipment.
  • Use all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as instructed by supervisor.
  • Responsible for proper operation of boiler safety apparatus, and daily blow down of boilers.
  • Help the Maintenance Supervisor maintain an adequate inventory of materials, equipment and tools required to perform routine tasks without delays.
  • Some journeyman craftsmen will be assigned limited standby duties after hours and week-ends which requires carrying a paging
  • beeper or two way radio. This duty is rotated equally among the department staff.
  • Help the Maintenance Supervisor organize and plan a weekly and monthly cleaning and painting schedule for all boiler rooms.
  • Take a daily chemical reading of boiler feed water.
  • Every Engineering Department staff member will be assigned other technical work within the department when maintenance crisis occur with the company or work in their particular technical field is temporarily or permanently reduced.

 

Job Requirement:

  • High School diploma/ GED
  • Prior experience working with high pressure steam boilers
  • Experience operating and maintaining fuel oil fired boilers
  • Experience performing plumbing tasks in an industrial environment
  • Successful completion of MVR
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be capable of handling moderately strenuous physical activity such as moving heavy units for repair (50 lbs)
