Alpine, Freestyle and Snowboard Coaches

The following items are recommended to become a coach: a High School diploma, USSA or USASA coach’s certification, PSIA background, Alpine Official Certification, and a valid driver’s license. You must be able to carry 25 lbs. or more of equipment on skis, and be able to be outside for long periods of time. You will report to the Head coach and Alpine Director, you will also be responsible for the set up and tear down of events.  Basic First aid and CPR certification is recommended.  Safe Sport and concussion training is highly recommended. It is also required that all coaches wear a helmet.


You are responsible for all aspects of coaching for your assigned group. You need to be a strong positive role model for your group, as well as being a team player with other coaches, race crews and families. Be sure to maintain a high level of physical fitness to complete the demands of the job.  All coaches should be able to complete all drills and skills within reason. Create a positive, task focused learning environment. Understand and use the ATS as a guideline.


Use positive reinforcement for all ages and abilities. You are responsible for helping to create lesson plans for your group.  You must have a strong understanding of the basic skills of Alpine, Freestyle, and Snowboard disciplines. You are responsible for setting up the appropriate tasks, gate drills, and courses for the ability and your group on appropriate terrain. You must be able to travel to events as needed with your groups. You must have strong organizational skills and well developed communication skills, both verbally and written.
