Vail Resorts is always looking for great talent.  Although our resorts and offices are currently closed to protect the health and safety of our employees, applications are still being accepted.  Hiring will resume as soon as normal operations resume.

 

SUMMARY

Work as a member of the Lift Maintenance team to maintain and repair lifts for safe and continued operation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalency (G.E.D.).
  • Ability to be insured to operate company vehicles (if 21 years of age or older).
  • Minimum one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic math with the ability to compute and interpret rate, ratio, percentages, and graphs.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Snowmobile, snow cat, vehicle, and equipment operation experience preferred.
  • Intermediate ski or snowboard ability.
  • Ability to work effectively unsupervised or in a team.
  • Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions
  • Able to work on high, precarious places near moving mechanical parts
  • Must be comfortable with the changing dynamics of a seasonal business.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Follow all safety procedures and practices per workplace safety manual, training, and agency regulations.
  • Prepare chairlifts daily for operational use.
  • Perform daily evaluations, performance checks, preventative maintenance, and safety checks.
  • Complete required departmental maintenance log sheets and record keeping.
  • Perform all tasks associated with inspecting, repairing, and maintaining lift equipment including:
  • Tower machinery and sheaves.
  • Drive equipment, such as gear boxes, drive belts, electric motors, diesel engines, bearings.
  • Hydraulic and mechanical tension and braking systems.
  • Carriers, grips, clips, and detachable grips.
  • Bullwheels, terminals, towers, haul ropes, control systems, batteries
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose any problems with lift equipment.
  • Travel to lifts via snow cat, snowmobile, or skis.
  • Climb towers, ladders and stairs to access job locations.
  • Keep safety of personnel and passengers a priority at all times.
  • Assist with emergency lift evacuations as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work station.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Keep all work areas clean, neat, and orderly.
  • Assist with de-icing and snow removal for safe operation of lifts.
  • Assist and coach Lift Operations department as needed.
  • Conduct department training and development programs.
  • Insure employee compliance with required tasks and documentation related to the department.
  • Assist with compliance to state and local regulations such as but not limited to OSHA and ANSI.B77.
  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisors regarding personnel and work issues.
  • Organize and direct crews to complete tasks designated by supervisors.
  • Training in office work may be required. These items are related to but not limited to ordering, time keeping and accident reporting.
  • Must be able to lead a crew of at least 14 mechanics on projects from start to finish.
  • Maintain flexible working hours; perform work duties at any hour of the day when needed including staying late or arriving early
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge.
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • Basic rigging knowledge including using hydraulics.
  • Troubleshooting ability.
  • Welding and metal-working.
  • Knowledge of manufacturer recommendations and regulatory requirements.
  • Leading crews to completion of tasks/jobs.
  • Strong office skills.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms, pulling and pushing large wrenches in all positions including overhead and overreaching.
  • Must have the ability to frequently walk, climb or balance, talk or hear, and taste or smell as well as be able to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Climb vertical ladders to 75 feet and safely perform work duties at that height in all weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with equipment assistance on a vertical ladder up to 75 feet.
  • Possess the ability to work while laying on hard and/or uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to shovel, lift, and carry dirt, snow, and other debris in repetitive motion for extended periods of time.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the working environment is usually very loud; the employee may be exposed to high volume of power tools and machinery.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions near moving mechanical parts in or on high, precarious places.
