Environmental Sustainability Waste Diversion Specialist - Winter Seasonal - Stevens Pass

This position will assist with the resort wide waste stream management including compost tipping, recycling, lodge dumpsters, parking lots, cardboard bundling and removal, restaurants. Small equipment operations  (ski steer, 1 ton truck) Driving supplies to designated locations (Seattle, Wenatchee).  Assist with snow removal of all outdoor receptacles.  Provide administrative support including tracking /logging volumes, and support for data collection related to sustainability metrics.



  • Knowledge of Stevens Pass and the local culture is preferred 
  • Must be insurable to operate company vehicles
  • Able and willing to learn equipment operation, such as: hydraulic lifts,  “Bobcat” type loaders, and heavy-duty 4wd trucks ranging from 1-5 tons (some w/manual transmission)
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize and organize a variety of tasks and projects
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the general public, using tact, courtesy, and good judgment
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with changing variables in any given situation

  • Must be comfortable with the changing dynamics of a seasonal business



  • Enact goals and mission of Environmental Services Dept to reduce waste, capture all recyclable materials possible, implement sustainability programs, operate efficiency initiatives, and undertake greenhouse gas reduction efforts
  • Assist with the oversight of resort wide waste stream; operate company vehicles and equipment for on-site and off-site transportation of waste, recycling, and composting materials.
  • Oversee the refuse, recycling, composting, and solid waste duties;  ensuring proper loading, coordination, and arrangement of transporting materials; address problems, repairs, and tend to the maintenance of the equipment and dumpsters
  • Oversee transfer of recycling and refuse to on-site holding facilities, ensure maintenance schedule
  • Assist with snow removal
  • Address contamination issues; assure refuse is handled appropriately, safely and efficiently
  • Assist with the cardboard truck loading and recycling as needed
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the work space and storage areas as needed
  • Reallocate surplus and retired office furnishings and other equipment, scrap appliances, and E-waste
  • Arrange collection and transport of rubber tire recycling
  • Oversee operational procedures and programs; educating and engaging employees in defined sustainability-oriented behaviors
  • Provide timely, education-oriented customer service to employees for recycling, composting and waste management practices
  •  Responds to requests for assistance
  • Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors as need on sustainability practices
  • Assist with purchase orders and department invoices and expenses
  • Additional tasks as required by Environmental, Planning, Regulatory Coordinator, the General Manager, or the Senior Management Team.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; balance; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and rarely required to smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee may frequently walk and balance on stairs, wet, slick, snow-covered, or uneven surfaces.
