Position Status: Full Time (40 hours/week)

Scope:

  • A Vail Resorts Retail (VRR) Store Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the business, including day to day operations and strategic business planning.

Reporting:

  • Reports to Retail/Rental Area Manager.

Roles & Responsibilities of a VRR Store Manager:

  • First and foremost you must be a leader who possesses a high level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Exhibiting these traits is critical to successfully driving an engaged and successful team.
  • Drive a culture of service excellence with a focus on ensuring every guest has the “experience of a lifetime”.
  • Drive the highest level of sales and service culture within the store with the aim of growing the retail line of business.
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with key stakeholders that impact your business.
  • Ensure the store is aligned with VRR policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Develop a robust talent development program for the store’s Assistant Manager and Supervisors, with a focus on their personal and professional development.
  • Drive excellence in all areas of store operational standards including front and back of house.
  • Develop and rollout frontline training programs to new staff during winter season ramp-up (November).

Roles & Responsibilities Specific to the Stevens Pass Rental Center:

As the Store Manager of the Stevens Pass Rental Center, this job oversees the operations of a very large rental operation and repair center. The store manager’s responsibility includes:

  • Overseeing all aspects of store operations.
  • Manages a team of up to 75 frontline staff with a leadership team consisting of 5 direct reports.

Day to day task will often include:

  • Checking in on assigned projects
  • Providing guidance to the store leadership team
  • Doing audits of records and of the safe to ensure that store is in compliance
  • Ensuring store and staff have all necessary supplies
  • Meeting with other departments and committees to ensure store is aligned with VRR initiatives as well as mountain initiatives
  • Creating operational plans for special events, groups, and holidays
  • Identifying sales opportunities and create plans accordingly
  • Tracking adherence to safety business plan
  • Organizing staff training and development
  • Administrative duties
  • Managing retail inventory, rental inventory, and supplies
  • Hiring staff and processing payroll through a digital platform.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to:

  • Manage delegation effectively.
  • Ability to understand and manage process flow is very important. The rental shop is a multi-step process with 100+ customers in process at a time on busiest days.
  • Assign responsibility to 5-6 supervisors/ASMs and 8 Leads to ensure that all tasks properly being completed. Provide support and training in the completion of all tasks.
  • Plan time lines and purchase necessary supplies for the completion of all tasks.
  • Ability to look for opportunities to service unmet needs of customers and increase profitability
  • Ability to work independently with no supervisor and very little guidance.
  • Cooperate with other managers and directors on mountain to align with mountain initiatives and develop cross-departmental programs to provide each guest with “the experience of a lifetime.”

Operational Expectations

  • Sales Training- Train staff to excel at delivering the ‘GUIDE’ experience. This is a sales environment and add-on and upselling are expected from all retail staff.
  • Rental Service Expectations – Develop a rental service culture that focuses on the Rental GX metrics.
  • On-going Coaching and Monitoring- Ensuring that the weekly sales planner is being used to identify training needs with sales staff and using WISH to do so. Ensuring that all staff have a monthly review of their sales and service performance and action/goals are created for growth.
  • Recognition- Sales staff are being recognized regularly on exceeding customer service and sales expectations.
  • Progressive Discipline- Ensuring that corrective actions are being recognized and habits are being change towards the WB service expectations.
  • Communication and Reporting- Ensuring that all pertinent reports are completed and communicated to your leadership team and Area Manager in a timely manner.
  • Financial Management- Ensure that there is budget available and accountability to all department costs and as well as responsible for funds spent on the growth of the business. (i.e. the necessary supplies are available).
  • Physical Organization- Ensure that all store areas are at the VRR standard operating procedures are adhered to on a consistent basis.
  • Physical Cleanliness- Ensuring the floors, fixtures, windows, backrooms, cash, offices, etc… are free from dirt, garbage and any other contaminated items that are contrary to VRR retail operations.
  • Merchandise Maintenance- Ensuring that products are being maintained in the organized fashion directed by the merchandise coordinator.
  • Promotional Appearance- Ensuring that all sale signage, price adjustments and other promotional fixtures are produced in a timely manner as directed by the buyers and merchandise coordinators.
  • Loss Prevention- Ensuring that all preventive measures as mention in both the VRR SOP manuals are adhered to on a consistent basis.
  • Risk Management – Ensuring 100% compliance in all risk management related areas, including safety, incident/accident reporting, ASTM testing on rental skis.
  • Cash Management- Ensuring that the proper protocols are being used for all aspects of the cash use as defined in the VRR SOP manuals.
  • Product Management- Ensuring that the movement of products from DC to store & store to store is maintained and regularly follow-up up for inventory integrity.
