Job Summary

The Manager will lead and continue to develop all aspects of Adult and Private Lesson operations within the Ski and Snowboard School at Stevens Pass. This role is integral to the school’s goal to “be known as the leader in snow sports instruction in the PNW” and represents a fantastic opportunity for someone who has the drive and passion for creating the experience of a lifetime for our guests.

 

The scope of this role is large and varied, and includes responsibilities around the daily operational processes specific to Adult and Private Lessons and our conveyor lifts. Success is defined by consistency and quality of performance across key areas; safety, employee engagement, guest experience, financial responsibility and personal and team development. Oversight of the Adult and Private Lesson leadership, instructors and staff enables this role to play a significant part in influencing the guest experience for thousands of guests each season including those new to the sport.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Successfully recruit, hire, coach, motivate and develop a high performing leadership team. Ensure team is aligned with the goals and values of Stevens Pass and Vail Resorts. Develop departmental leaders and prepare them for increased responsibility/accountability.
  • Create and/or maintain an employee culture of inclusivity and excellence that will result in a safe, positive and engaging work environment. This culture to include teamwork, collaboration, progressive thinking, and constant improvement to attract the best and brightest employees and motivate them to accomplish great work.
  • Assist the Training Team in devising and implementing the training plan for all employees with a focus on working with adult beginners, private lessons and established skiers and riders.
  • Be knowledgeable of each step of the guest’s purchase path and experience trail, and partner and build strong, positive relationships with other departments to ensure a consistent and high level experience for guests and employees.
  • Accountable for the accurate entry of schedules and payroll and timely communication for all employees.
  • Financial accountability and management of multiple lines of business including revenue, labor, and operating expense.
  • Proactively develop management and industry skill set by seeking out and taking advantage of educational and training opportunities.
  • Work closely with stakeholders and partake in our annual innovation teams to help Re-imagine the Mountain Resort Experience.
  • Manage annual safety plan to reduce employee incidents and create a strong safety culture across departments.
  • Oversee and manage all assigned companywide trainings and courses to insure 100% completion by assigned employees.
  • Execute reoccurring compliance policies and trainings per company guidelines at 100% success rate including areas of Safety, Service, and Finance.
  • Serve as a Manager on Duty in the absence of the Director of Skier Services.

 

Job Requirements
 

Required:

  • Minimum 3 years proven leadership experience in SSBS or closely related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working directly with adult learners in an educational setting
  • PSIA/AASI level 2 certification (or equivalent)
  • Component user of ResortPOS, including Ski School Tools, ResortPOS Report Shell, and Customer Manager.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office applications and in adapting to unfamiliar software systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in a high paced, variable, multi-faceted environment with the ability to multi-task
  • Employment in this position is subject to a satisfactory background screening
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, weekdays & holidays 

Preferred:

  • PSIA/AASI Level 3 certification or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education or a related field
  • Previous Vail Resorts Ski and Snowboard School Product Manager or greater management experience
  • PeopleSoft HR and Success Factors experience
