Job Summary:
The Fleet Maintenance Manager oversees all preventative, routine, scheduled, and unscheduled maintenance of vehicles and equipment for Stevens Pass in a proactive, safe, and efficient way. They supervise all maintenance activities and special projects assigned by the Director of Mountain Operations, ensuring the quality and service required are met and maintaining the standards set by Vail Resorts. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, successfully leading experienced fleet mechanics to achieve high levels of execution and job satisfaction, while fostering excellent team cohesion and effectiveness.

Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee the entire Stevens Pass fleet, including snowcats, snowmobiles, snow blowers, end loaders, trucks, UTVs, heavy equipment, and other machinery to ensure proper maintenance, utilization, and rotation.
- Facilitate a priority-driven and cohesive repair process for vehicles and equipment with quick turnaround times, while ensuring that quality control procedures are followed.
- Manage and supervise all department staff, focusing on hiring, training, policy enforcement, performance management, documentation, and safety protocols.
- Provide talent recruitment, hiring, training, and leadership to staff. Develop and review training requirements for mechanics to keep up with the maintenance needs of new vehicles, snowcats, snowmobiles, shop tools, and equipment.
- Plan and oversee the departmental and capital budgets to maintain optimal fleet readiness, including preparing analyses and strategies for capital requests related to fleet rotation and disposal. Manage capital documentation for all fleet purchases.
- Monitor and track all fuel and fluid transactions, ensuring compliance and safety. Maintain up-to-date training, OSHA standards, Hazmat protocols, SDS documentation, and fuel storage procedures for a year-round operation.
- Serve as the main contact for key fleet vendors and internal customers to provide strong support.
- Lead staff meetings and promote effective communication within the fleet maintenance team.
- Collaborate closely with the grooming operations to support fleet functionality and fulfill resort grooming goals.
- Ensure adherence to VRI Company policies regarding property loss, workers’ compensation, regulatory compliance, industry standards, and equipment operation.
- Directly oversee goal setting, development plans, and performance reviews for all departmental staff..
- Coordinate scheduling for all employees to keep the shops open seven days per week, when needed.
- Drive the fleet maintenance culture and the overall Vail Resorts safety culture to create optimum engagement of employees--providing the experience of a lifetime for our staff and ensuring that they provide it for our guests.
- Build strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders outside the sphere of direct reports.
- Direct and oversee the allocation of all equipment to various departments.
- Manage and grow the Maintain X processes to ensure a high level of ongoing and preventive maintenance requirements.
- Strong organizational experience in relation to fleet tracking and work scheduling
- Active participant in the Stevens Pass Mountain Operations Team.
- Cross-train and support snow removal equipment operators to provide entry-level shop mechanic duties.
- Support all equipment operators (snow cat, snow removal, terrain park, summer operators…) in the proper use and care of the machines and equipment.
- Lead and manage environmental initiatives, such as alternative fuels, fuel conservation, and efficiencies.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Mountain Operations.
- Work in partnership with the Snow Surfaces Manager and snow surfaces personnel.
- Be and active contributing member of the Mountain Operations Management (MOM’s) team.
Job Requirements:
Required:
- High school education or equivalent
- Minimum of six years of experience in fleet Maintenance
- Minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience with strong management skills.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License
- Strong knowledge of desktop computers and applications – Microsoft Office applications
- Strong English communication skills, including verbal & written
- Demonstrated knowledge of Fleet Maintenance operations regarding scheduling and tracking of work.
The expected pay range is $80,168.40 -$91,113.00 +annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
