Job Summary:
The Base Area Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading and supporting department leaders across Rental, Retail, Uniform, Building Maintenance, and Product Sales & Ticket Sales (PSS). This role ensures exceptional guest experiences, operational efficiency, and strong team performance through effective leadership and strategic planning.
A key focus of this position is developing department leaders by training them to manage critical workforce functions, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management. The Supervisor also oversees scheduling, inventory control, and operational problem-solving while maintaining compliance with safety standards and brand guidelines.
As part of the resort leadership team, this role partners with the Senior Manager to drive strategic initiatives, foster a positive workplace culture, and deliver an Experience of a Lifetime for employees and guests.

Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations across Rental, Retail, Uniform, Building Maintenance, and Product Sales & Ticket Sales (PSS) departments.
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and productive work environment by implementing all company-mandated safety training and assessments.
- Train, mentor, and support supervisors and frontline staff to drive performance, engagement, and professional growth.
- Communicate professionally with guests and employees, address feedback, concerns, and recognition promptly and empathetically.
- Analyze business trends and forecast volumes to proactively manage staffing levels and inventory requirements.
- Support group programming and Epic for Everyone initiatives to enhance guest engagement and inclusivity.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic records with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ensure operational areas are clean, well-stocked, and visually aligned with brand standards.
- Design and managing uniform distribution and collection processes.
- Develop and adjust weekly staff schedules to meet operational and business needs.
- Collaborate with senior resort leadership to elevate guest satisfaction, employee experience, and financial performance.
- Execute daily opening and closing procedures for retail and rental outlets; assist in frontline roles during off-peak periods as needed.
- Uphold all Vail Resorts and local resort policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform additional duties assigned to support overall resort operations.
- Drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for evolving in-resort Guest Service Delivery, including people, processes, and technology.
- Foster a customer-focused culture to ensure exceptional guest experiences throughout the entire journey.
- Develop and implement processes and reporting systems to monitor service delivery, quality standards, and operational efficiency.
- Serve as a consultative partner to other resort departments and external stakeholders to continuously improve and scale service delivery.
- Monitor labor and service trends to identify opportunities for process improvement, quality enhancement, and cost reduction.
- Manage local budgets and expenses responsibly.
- Build and sustain a high-performing team culture focused on value creation, guest service excellence, and leadership development for career progression.
- Support the creation of an effective Guest Services organizational culture through collaboration with peers.
- Strengthen succession planning by increasing the mix of high-potential employees and fostering leadership growth.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant operational experience.
- 3–5 years of leadership experience managing teams and driving performance.
- Strong understanding of Product Sales & Services (PSS) products, programs, and initiatives, as well as rental and retail operations.
- Ability to execute resort promotional events and collaborate with sponsors effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and inspire department leaders, fostering engagement and professional development.
- Proven operational management skills with experience leading large, result-driven teams across multiple functions.
- Ability to set a strategic vision and translate it into actionable plans and measurable outcomes.
- Strong decision-making skills with a commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality results.
- Professionalism and strong guest service orientation with excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Knowledge of outdoor sporting goods industry and ski industry trends and products.

The expected pay range is $25.00/hr - $34.74/hr. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
