Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable, agile, and motivated General Manager to oversee operations at The General Store, Kirkwood’s essential hub for groceries, grab-and-go food, beverages, and retail goods. Open year-round, The General Store serves resort guests, employees, and residents with everyday essentials, locally sourced products, and quick-service meals. From managing seasonal transitions to building a strong team culture, this role calls for a hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic, multi-department environment.

Located at the base of the mountain, The General Store is a unique blend of convenience store, coffee bar, and retail boutique. It’s a go-to stop for locals and visitors alike—whether they need snacks, sundries, souvenirs, or a hot coffee before hitting the lifts. As a year-round operation, the store plays a key role in sustaining the resort community beyond the winter season. Winter operations also include leadership oversight of the Jet’s Hangar, a QSR located upstairs from The General Store.

Job Responsibilities:

Operations & Guest Experience

  • Manage all aspects of store operations including grocery, grab-and-go food, retail, and beverage sales
  • Ensure the store is consistently clean, stocked, organized, and the right products are merchandised for our guests and demographics
  • Leadership of Jet’s Hangar QSR, planning and performing Isolation Dinners for employees
  • Ski event oversight and leading in conjunction with the Facilities department involving themselves with cleanliness and maintenance of the building
  • Oversee food safety practices in relation to the county’s health department, merchandising, product rotation (FIFO), as well as training and oversight of all employees in reference to food safety guidelines
  • Provide exceptional customer service, both internal and external guests; clear communicator, motivating and a clear and concise teacher

Team Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and supervise a year-round and seasonal team across multiple departments in guest service strategies, financial acumen, staffing levels, and guest service in accordance with our Food and Beverage Center of Excellence Group
  • Create staffing plans and schedules based on sales trends and seasonal needs according to budgets, forecast, and business trends utilizing the Legion Scheduling Portal
  • Foster and cultivate a strong and robust culture of caring with strong communication, accountability, and guest service standards in alignment within our successful structure
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly check-ins, performance reviews, and hands-on training and employee experience

Financial & Inventory Management

  • Track and manage daily sales, labor, COGS, and operational expenses
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels for groceries, beverages, and retail merchandise
  • Monitor vendor relationships, receive and process deliveries, and ensure invoice accuracy
  • Utilize system data and reporting tools to forecast demand and optimize stock levels

Community & Resort Engagement

  • Collaborate with other resort departments on guest events, employee programs, and seasonal promotions
  • Actively participate in resort-wide initiatives and support community engagement
  • Highly active and leading in our Commitment to Zero Team, focus on diversion streams to enhance community and resort footprint

 

Job Requirements:

  • 3–5 years of management experience in grocery, retail, or food service environments
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to train, motivate, and retain staff
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational, communication, and multitasking abilities
  • Familiarity with POS and inventory systems (e.g., InfoGenesis, Retail Pro, or similar)
  • Serve Safe Manager Certification and RBS/TIPS Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire)
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and variable shifts as needed
  • Physically able to stand for long periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and work in a mountain environment

The expected pay range is Starting at $68,640 + annual bonus. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
