Job Summary

 

The Assistant Manager for Ski Patrol will assist in all aspects of coordinating Ski Patrol. This is a managerial position tasked with performing at a global level, capable of prioritizing and strategizing all facets of the job with the intent of aligning the team internally, between bases, and with the strengths and values of the Company. Assist in preparing and managing both operational and capital budgets. Ensures patrollers are trained and prepared to respond to all emergent situations. This position must be committed to providing the highest standard of service. The job requires strong leadership qualities, the ability to problem seek/solve, and use creativity to build a positive, winning culture while building a robust team.

 

Job Specifications:

  • Starting Wage: $27.00 - $34.00 hourly

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervising the day-to-day operations of the ski patrol, overseeing all facets of guest service, guest safety, mountain safety, medical care, on-hill maintenance and chair lift guest evacuation;
  • Ensures that daily scheduling of staff is adequate and appropriate for necessary patrol operations;
  • Functions appropriately in the absence of the Ski Patrol Manager
  • Communicates with staff about daily assignments and expectations;
  • Successfully complete hiring paperwork, training assistance, and scheduling of seasonal patrollers within given timeframes;
  • Ensure accountability of patroller development by tracking the training performance and certifications within given deadlines. Provide coaching and feedback in a timely manner;
  • Assist with maintaining an updated patrol SOP documentation, manuals, and training tools;
  • Demonstrates effective supervisory skills with regard to motivation, disciplinary and corrective actions, and documented mid and end of season reviews;
  • Facilitates and coordinates with other Mountain Operations departments on daily opening and operation of the resort;
  • Communicates with other departments with issues that might affect their operations; i.e. weather conditions that might affect ski school, food service, lifts, etc.;
  • Educates staff on safe workplace practices and actively works to minimize staff injury by conveying importance of appropriate decision making and risk reduction;
  • Assumes leadership role in major incidences including accidents, lift issues, special events, guest confrontations, or missing skier searches;
  • Oversees mountain maintenance issues including closures, slope and trail conditions, protective padding, and general appearance of ski area;
  • Provides management assistance for Mountain Safety team leaders with their staff as needed;
  • Represents management as an approachable, empathetic and responsive team in handling of issues that affect either personal life or professional life of staff;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

  • OEC certification;
  • 5 years patrol experience;
  • Must speak and write in English fluently;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office;
  • Able to work weekends and holidays as required;
  • Must be able to ski/ride at a professional skier level in all snow and weather conditions, daily;
  • Be able to lift (and ski/ride with) a minimum of 50 lbs daily, if the opportunity presents itself;
  • Must have frequent ability to lift, stand, walk, sit, and maneuver in all climate conditions on mountain;
  • Must have full dexterity of hands and fingers to feel and maneuver in cold temperatures;
  • Ability to reach with hands/arms;
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl in all weather conditions;
  • Ability to communicate with our guests verbally - listening and talking in a calm manner;
  • Must have good vision (corrected or not corrected) – with ability to see up-close, in the distance, peripheral, depth perception and have the ability to adjust focus.

Preferred:

  • Preferred least 1 year of supervisory experience; 
  • NSP Senior or Certified and/or NSP Instructor status;
  • College degree.

 

The expected pay range is $27.00 - $34.00 hourly. This is the pay range we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.
