Gear Check Attendants focus on facilitating a memorable on-mountain experience and delivering great guest service through providing secure daily storage of customers and employee’s equipment and belongings, as well as promoting complimentary use of the gear check facility for Stevens Pass rental gear.


Shift options range from full time to part time or holiday help. This is a 100% outdoors position.



  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Passion for the outdoors and the mountain environment
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all mountain winter weather conditions and stand for up to 8 hours without sitting
  • Ability to handle frequent guest interactions, maintaining high service standards at all times
  • Ability to remain enthusiastic and perform methodically when busy
  • Must demonstrate an ability to follow specific departmental procedures and guidelines
  • Must be available to work shifts on weekends and holidays throughout the winter season, and be comfortable with the changing dynamics of a seasonal business.



  • Set up and shutting down the facility on a daily basis
  • Maintain the organization of the facility and the proper distribution and collection of claim tokens
  • Collect payment, accurately account funds for transactions, cash out daily and complete all paperwork associated with the operation and audit of the facility
  • Attendants will also be held accountable for any discrepancies in the total money tendered vs. money deposited.
  • Participate in daily meetings, daily facility upkeep and maintenance, special projects, locating lost equipment and training programs.
  • Attain and maintain a comprehensive understanding of resort products, and department procedures and processes
  • Cultivate a friendly, fun, team environment for the experience of a lifetime for fellow employees and guests
  • Promote, embrace and adhere to Vail Resorts’ Mission and Core Values
  • Provide friendly and helpful guest service
  • Other duties as assigned



While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, sit, stoop, balance, climb and hike in and over steep, winter terrain.  The employee will reach with hands and arms to manipulate small items with gloved hands; operate a manual shovel; swing and carry hand tools, equipment, and personal supplies. The employee may regularly lift up to 30 pounds alone and may occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess the ability to walk on uneven surfaces, and/or snow and ice covered surfaces, stairs and/or ladders.
